Any chance he comes with Johnson? That's his pitching coach who was apart of Casey's staff at Oregon State. Has 2 national coach of the year awards according to his bio. The only thing keeping him there would be to become Arizona's next HC I would think right?

He's supposed to be going to A&M.

Rumored to be going to A&M, but could also possibly now be offered the Arizona HC job. Johnson and Yeskie didn't fully see eye to eye according to some so I don't think following Johnson here is an option

I'm sure they'll make a run at him, but two things are possible.

First is that he gets the Arizona job. Second is you're in a bidding war with A&M for him.

A guy I like for the job is Christian Ostrander, who's the pitching coach at Southern Miss. He's turned out some really successful arms over there, and he was pretty good at Louisiana Tech before that. He's also supposed to be an excellent recruiter. He's from Monroe initially.

Ostrander is a great pitching coach. He watched my son pitch, made two adjustments and increased his velocity immediately. But I’m not sure he’s LSU ready.

Dave Therneau from Stetson deserves a look.

In his 3rd year as pitching coach:

quote:

The Hatters tied for the NCAA lead, and tied the school record, with nine shutouts during the year and the staff posted the lowest team ERA (2.66) of the aluminum bat era, leading the NCAA.

In addition to shutouts, strikeouts, saves and ERA, the Hatters led the nation in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (6.81) and WHIP (1.11). Stetson was third in the nation in K/9 innings (10.5) and K-to-BB ratio (3.31) and was fourth in winning percentage (.787). The Hatters also allowed the lowest opponent batting average (.207) and allowed the fewest extra-base hits (90) in the aluminum bat era.

In addition to Gilbert, Stetson pitchers Wilson (7th round to Atlanta), Perkins (11th round to Philadelphia), Ben Onyshko (24th round to Seattle) and Joey Gonzalez (28th round to Houston) were among the six Hatters selected in the MLB Draft.

Top 20 team ERA this year. And it's been that way since he's been there.

The other guy to look at is BJ Ryan from ULL. He had the #7 team ERA in the country this year, and their staff has gotten WAY better with most of the same guys since 2019.

SCOOP: Big news in the #SEC, as former
@d1baseball Assistant of the Year,
@ArizonaBaseball pitching coach Nate Yeskie has decided to join @CoachSchloss and @AggieBaseball as Associate Head Coach. He will not be heading to LSU. Strong get for the #Aggies.

With Nate Yeskie off the board for Jay Johnson and @LSUbaseball, my first call would be to former Texas A&M head coach Rob Childress as PC in Baton Rouge. There would be interest.

Stetson was 92nd in team ERA this year.

We were 74th.

Which is not to disqualify the guy from there, he just doesn't have THAT kind of number to show this year.

A&M has schooled us in all aspects in the 2 baseball searches. Quicker, bigger hire, and getting all the best assistants. Ugh. Can’t even get the assistant that worked for Jay..
