Saban quit because got tired of dealing with the NIL and transfer portal shite. He outright said that right after the Michigan game he had players on his own roster come up to him to negotiate for more NIL or they were leaving and that's when he said frick it I'm out. He didn't quit just to run to that dumpster fire in Gainesville and deal with all the same shite there lol. Plus he's 72. He's done with coaching for good imo

The problem with college/NFL head coaching hires is that they do not put 1/10th the importance on the IQ of a coach. The industry is a good ole boy system and you have to know someone or be in the loop to get a job.

Mike McDaniel should be the absolute definitive model for head coaching search. If you're going to spend $5,000,000 to $10,000,000 a year on an employee, he better be damn absolute perfect. Listen to Billy Napier talk. He sounds like straight from Livingston Parish or De Soto Parish or Halfway between Monroe and Baton Rouge where it's straight hick. Guaranteed he got a sub 20 on the ACT. His brain isn't capable of what it takes to be a Saban or Mike McDaniel.

If I'm LSU AD, I'm recruiting Grad Assistants or whatever role pay level it takes to get Harvard, MIT, Yale, Stanford graduates. Just have 15 of them coaching. I can absolutely guarantee if they are able to recruit, that'd LSU would be the next Bama.

No Saban quit because NIL meant he no longer had the advantage he held for so many years. NIL sucks but it gives teams the ability to pay above the table what Bama had been paying below the table for years.

Sagan doesn’t have the chest for a level playing field.

It just goes to show how important qb play is.

Their team is still incredibly undisciplined in year three. That’s a massive issue and that’s all on the head coach and program culture.

Mullen was the dream hire, had one bad season, and that led to this dogshit. Should have stuck with Mullen.

Mullen got himself fired by doubling down on not being serious about recruiting at an SEC level. And that was before NIL and the portal really fricked everything up. I’m not sure he ever returns to coach unless some legally allowed structure is put in place.

That said, he was a MUCH better coach when he didn’t get in his own way.

He really wasn’t. I never understood the intrigue with him.

Same as Fuente at Memphis. When you take a traditionally mediocre to bad program and turn them into a winner for more than a year or two, people take notice. But neither was capable of cutting it at the P5 level.

A big red flag with both- they tried to take WAYYYY too much of their G5 staffs along for the ride. That usually doesn’t work.

Yeah, roll back the clock to after week one of the 22 season when we lost to FSU and they beat Utah. A lot of posters here acted a fool over old Billy that week.

Heck, they might only have 3 or 4 wins the whole season It's a coin flip whether they win a single game after 10/19 (UK)

They might not be able to beat UCF honestly. UCF is a Big 12 team now and can wield a little more recruiting power.

Yeah I don't see that game as a tossup either. Florida is in for a rough ride this year.

Yeah. That team has completely given up on him and his staff. His staff has probably given up on him, too.

UL Lafayette should offer him his old job back.
I bet he's out of coaching within 2 years. He got paid more than he could ever imagine to take the Florida job

After that beating, wondering what the betting odds are he makes it through the entire season.

Sunbelt Billy's schedule isn't going to get easier either.

Florida's winning percentage after Urban Meyer left is now .594 (98-67).
The winning percentage during 6 seasons with Meyer was .813.
if I ever question the importance of the head coach hire, I'll come back to this stat to remind myself. That leadership makes all the difference in college. I doubt we see much change even after NIL and portal.
