6. Seemed like there quite a few false starts and offensive penalties. Hopefully that can get cleaned up.

There were a lot of center/snap issues today. Going to be a tough chore to fill Lonergan's spot. Pocic looked good - an early entry freshman running center with the ones! Amazing. I know Porter is out for SP but Pocic will play somewhere.

1. First of all, I was extremely impressed with Jennings. He has a very quick release and also obviously has some wheels. I could tell he wants to throw first and runs when necessary. He doesn't spook easily into taking off. Very excited for this kids future ad expect him to take the reigns come 2014.

I disagree to some degree. I thought he did take off a lot but I also thought that had something to do with running the twos offense against ones defense.

Jennings will play a lot in a wild cat type formation

I have no clue what this is based on. He played almost three quarters today and not one single play from the wildcat...

Ahhhh so that was Pocic. I was wondering who the white boy at center was.

I was trying to keep track of the new faces.

They looked good. One of the few positions that doesn't lack depth. Kwon Alexander had the best performance of the game.

Kwon and Debo looked good, especially Kwon. Saw Lamin Barrow make a few tackles but Kwon really stole the show.

Yes wright played, boone played, diarse, and and dural. Ball really wasn't thrown their way much.

Hayden Rettig played but never did much and didn't get much time either. He threw one that could have been intercepted but was dropped.

Of Rivers and A. Jennings they both both threw a number of beautiful incompletions way down the field where the WR was totally covered. Perfect pass but just no catch because the guy was covered.

One of metts long td passes was to a guy over the middle running a post that was covered fairly well. Ball looked to be over thrown and the WR was just able to get it on the run at full speed with is the only reason he was semi-open when the ball got there. Broke the tackle and scored. That little burst at the last few steps gave him a half step on the defender.

Mett threw one TD pass that was called back due to a penalty. Didn't matter a play or two latter he threw another strike for a td.

going into fall who do you think our number 1 backers are?

My thoughts:
Mett looked shaky at first, but really settled in nicely. I think he will have a good year. He overthrew 2 wide open deep balls, but came back and completed two or 3 beautiful deep balls. He also threw a beautiful fade in the corner of the endzone for a td to Landry that was called back.

Jennings: First thing I want to say about Jennings is everyone should know that this kid should still be a senior in high school and was playing against our first team defense. He will be a gamer and is definitely a throw first run second qb. He made some nice plays with his legs and showed good pocket awareness. He had one beautiful pass to I believe it was Peterson on the sideline. I think he will earn the second qb spot. He's barely settled in at LSU right now and already looks good. The fall will do wonders for him, and from what I hear he has a great work ethic.

Rivers: Rivers looked pretty good out there today. He made a few great throws, but also some horrible ones. I'm not knocking him in the least, but a lot of his stats came from great runs after the catch from the wideouts. He was inconsistent, but the ability is there. I also think he has a bright future. I will enjoy watching him and Jennings battle for the number 2 spot. He was playing against the 2's and did hold the ball a little long at times, but I came away impressed.

Rettig: Hayden looked like a senior in high school out there. He was just in over his head. I think he will develop into a nice qb here and the ability is there, but he doesn't seem mentally ready yet. He was playing against the 1's which is a big task for a true freshman qb. He will redshirt and hopefully get a few years to settle in nicely.

My biggest impressions:

- Jennings looks talented, no panic, makes good decisions, but needs a lot of practice.

- Loston can be an All American... it's up to him.

- I understand the need to incorporate screen passes into the offense but those three first half attempts were insanely bad. Otherwise, except for the frequency with which the offense threw the ball, the offense doesn't seem any more complicated than what we're used to.

- Landry and Beckham embarrassed their defenders.

- Anthony Johnson and Ego Ferguson were very disruptive and will cause lots of problems for opposing offenses.

- Mettenburger will have a good year. Seems to want to improve his deep balls, but still seems to hold the ball a bit too long at times.

- Wish the purple team could have been a bit more competitive. Speaks to a lack of depth, I believe.

Barrow will be a beast. When Magee caught the ball across the middle, I thought he was going to get a huge gain. Barrow ran him down from behind with defensive back speed. He looks much bigger too.

Also Jeremy Hill looked awesome! Loston played great and Kavarha Holmes (sp?) played well also. Beckham and Landry should be something special next year if Dural or Leslie can come in and help take a little pressure off them.

I really wish the two Jalen's would have played. I want to see what the WR's would have done vs our best. Too bad they were injured.

People keep knocking rivers but he had a bunch of throw aways when everyone was covered. I thought he played really well. Not perfect but made some plays with his legs by keeping the play going. I was impressed.

You gotta remember Barrow also put up about 107 tackles last year playing outside LB. If he plays the middle this year, I think he will be a beast.

2. Mettenberger was..interesting. I remember one of the first plays, he went through his progressions beautifully to find his 3rd read in Beckham for a 20-30 something yard gain in a pretty tight window. There were a couple other throws that really showed off his arm talent and ball placement. That was very impressive. He also seemed to have quite a bit more pocket presence than last year. However, he still had a couple what-was-that throws. He missed Landry for what should have been a 40+ yard TD and a few others were off target as well. Then he comes right back and slings it to Beckham for an almost 80 yard TD. I can tell its clicking, but he seems inconsistent. When he's on, he can do great things. But when he's off, well he's just alright.

You sound a little CRITICAL of METT...Just sayin.......
