Les drives me nuts at times, but he is a very good Coach and a very good Man. if this community runs him off it will be our loss, no doubt.
Les Miles is a Character with character.
I am glad that he is a part of our LSU family.

Ok...not to totally go against the grain here but if since the personality rankings in this post seem to be (3- Lucifer 2- Hitler 1- Saban) I've got to tell one story in his defense. When the Saban's were in Baton Rouge my dad was one of their medical providers. My dad also played football for the Tigers back in the late 60's and started for 3 years. One day Nick was in his office after an appointment and he began looking around at Dad's old football suspension football helmet, letterman plaques, and several action shots from the 68 peach bowl and the 69 game against Auburn. Nick looked at Dad and said "Doc how in the hell did you play D-line at your size" (Dad was 5-11 195 soaking wet in his heydey). Dad looked back at him and said "quickness coach...in fact I don't mind telling you that I watch the O lines today and wonder how they block anybody, just doesn't seem like real football coach those boys are just leaning on each other, and furthermore had Coach Randall (defensive coord in the 60's) watched that on film, our arse would have run stadiums until HE got tired". Saban seemed amumsed and said "well it looks as if you keep yourself in pretty good shape maybe you need to come out to practice and show my boys how it's done" Dad reponded laughing and said "coach I'd love to but I'd worry about your boys, cause the first snap against boys that size we were taught to hit them in the earhole as hard as we could with a forearm shiver to let them know it was going to be a long day..and apparently that's illegal now as well". Saban laughed again "yeah but at least they could say they got to line up with a "real" football player" They both laughed again shook hands and Nick went on his way...Not saying that he's not a jerk but apparently he is human..

I agree with TxTiger 82. Saban is just all biz. Football is all he does. As one would expect from such a personality, he does it very well. I dont dislike him. But I think I do kinda understand him. No hatred or dislike for him or any other coach, really.

On top of that, who wants to guess what the 2005 season had looked like if we hadn't had a coaching change that year?
EXACTLY! Not to bring religion into this, but the Good Lord has His ways. The people needed someone who could empathise with what was going on around him.
Miles should always be remembered for how he dealt with the players and the fans during a historic and tragic time. Right man at the right time.

My personal story: Les Miles the man.
The year after the 2007 BCS when Miles made the TAF tour around the state, he came to Shreveport. A friend and I bought a table at the event and brought kids from an "underperforming" middle school to the event. They were selected by their teachers because of their good grades, character and attendance. These kids were dirt poor, not potential recruits, and had never been to an LSU game or any event like this.
The week of the event, I sent an email to the LSU athletic office general email address asking that it be forwarded to Coach Miles. I wanted him to stop by our table and say hello to these kids if possible. On the day of the event, I got a call from Coach Miles' personal secretary who asked for our table number. Just before Miles took the stage, he walked over to our table, talked to the kids one on one about the importance of staying in school and making good grades. He took individual pictures with the kids. People all around were trying to get in on the pictures, but his assistants kept everyone else away. He spent about 10 minutes with the kids, then walked past all the "big donors" and took the stage.
These kids were speechless. I thanked Coach Miles for doing this and told him how much it meant to the kids. He then thanked me for bringing the kids and asking him to talk to them, and said it takes all of us to raise our kids.
This man cares about kids, about people, and about Louisiana. This is what people don't know about him, but our Tiger players do.
I am proud that he is our coach.

I have a very similar story about when my daughter met coach Miles at a youth sporting event. I wasn't there, but she said that he sat and talked to her for a long time about practicing hard in her sport and working hard in school. He just did this for no other reason that the fact that he cares about other people just for who they are, not what they can mean to his career.

Yo, peopleschamp -
...and your son will grow up to be a "hard charger" who will be "tough on everybody" , who will "rarely give a compliment" . He will also have few, if any, real friends, will not be able to enjoy life, will never be happy or satisfied with anybody or anything, and basically be miserable his entire life. Probably just like you ?

Great story lsugumbeaux. I had the opportunity to meet Coach Miles, along with Lou Holtz when they visited troops in Iraq in 2006. Both of them took time to sit and chat for at least 5 minutes with every Soldier, Sailor, Marine and Airman that came through. Both men asked about my family in a very genuine manner--not the offhand, polite chit-chat way some folks do.
Given the way he presents himself in public Saban seems like a USDA grade-A arse and more interested in what's in it for Nick than anything else. He left a very successful LSU program to go into the NFL because it was best for Nick, then got disillusioned with the NFL and found a job at Bama because it was best for Nick. At some point he'll leverage success at Bama and go on to something else that's best for Nick.

Tigersd69, what do they say about a blindpig finding an acorn once in a while?
Who's your dad? That '69 team was one of my favorites and one of LSU's best of all time and the reason I have "69" in my user name.
It's also one of the reasons I hate ND.
I think if you ask him, he will probably tell you how much LM reminds us Old Farts of Coach Mac. Just like Mac, LSU, the players and the state are blessed to have LM as coach.

Many years ago, Saban - while at LSU - was recruiting a player at my high school. I was thrilled to meet him and asked him if I could show him something in my office that I was extremely proud of. He walked into my office and I began to describe the meaning behind a picture frame displayed proudly on my wall. I told the short-version story of how my dad, my brother and myself attended the LSU-Alabama game when LSU defeated Alabama for the first time in Tiger stadium in 30 years (The Irony). My brother ordered a picture from Tiger Rag showing an aerial view of Tiger Stadium and a huge arrow showing where I sat with my Dad and Brother. My ticket stub was framed with the picture. My brother gave it to me as a Christmas present. All tiger fans, I am sure, can appreciate this special moment when you can fondly remember an LSU game with your Dad and family members. I told Coach Saban this quick story and how special of a moment that was for me. I basically thanked him. He looked at the picture and without saying a word...walked out of my office. I felt as if I was just waisting his time.
I call bullshite on this. There's something you are leaving out or else you are embellishing it. I don't deny that Saban is "all business", but this doesn't pass the sniff test.
Also, in the midst of all the Miles dick-sucking, we seem to have conveniently left out all the rumors of his womanizing, even as we have found fit to bring Saban's KIDS into the discussion.
Finally, ask the PLAYERS if Saban has had their back over the years. Talk to Bradie James or Randall Gay and see what you find out.
The OP is fricking pathetic, particularly this:

If you have ever had any dealings with Saban, as many of the previous posters in this thread have, then you know that it absolutely passes the sniff test.
