Good work for the most part. I disagree with your assessment of the D line...I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how much a good D coordinator can help apply pressure with blitz packages, and that will free up some talented guys like Nevis on the inside and RA off the edge for some nice sack totals. Not to mention the mother load of talent coming in this fall at the D line position. Also, I really think Jai Eugene will start opposite PP with Hawkins matching up well on the slot receiver in some nickel and dime packages. Chavis will like the bigger more physical CB to play more press coverage while unloading his blitzes. I am by no means a Jai Eugene homer and really think he has a lot to prove, but if the Chief thinks he is ready GET EXCITED!!! He has tremendous upside and athleticism. Can't wait to watch this defense perform...and Chad Jones will make his mark on college football this year.

Two things will tell the tale. First is the QB position.

In reality it all goes back to the QB position.

I disagree totally. Defense is the primary concern. As bad as things got last year on offense, the defense, which had been our rock for a decade, was the thing that cost us 4 games. The O cost us 1 IMO. The offense put up over 30 points a game. That should be enough to be competitive in the SEC. The fact that our D was unable to stop anyone led to the wheels falling off.

Now, of course the pick 6s were demoralizing and deflating to the entire team, so they obviously didn't help the D, but it was the scheme, or lack of scheme, itself that had us running around clueless after the South Carolina game.

If Chavis and Co. do what I think they will on D, LSU won't be out of any game we play. That's all we can ask for with so many young players at key positions. If the D keeps it close, then our young star in the making at QB will have a chance to shine and turn those close games into Ws.

But if the D doesn't turn it around first, it won't matter what JJ does.

Quite close to my handle. I thought I was the only LSU fan in the state.

Why some of you continue to be signed sealed and delivered on JJ is beyond me.

Im certianly not saying or suggesting he isn't capeable and doesnt have talent... however to incinuate that our qb situation is not a concern b/c we have JJ now and if he happens not to work out we can replace him with another unproven freshman is at best, laughable.
Experience is key is college football, we have one qb with a good bit and another with a little.

We are fortuante to have JL on this team and to think the guy wont get any snaps other than "mop up" duty is fuking retarded.

If you mean why some of us are convinced he should be the starter... then it's obvious. If you mean why some think he will be nothing but spectacular.... okay.

It's just a hell of a lot better this year with J.J. #1 and J.L. #2, with experience, not the pressure, coming off the bench if and when needed.

It's good to have him #2. He should play if J.J. struggles mightily and early. The longer J.J. plays okay....not so much. It's really straightforward, IMO.

Personally, its not that JJ is signed, sealed, etc. Its just that our offense really was fine last year. Even with all the interceptions, if they just hadn't been freakishly returned for so many TDs, our offense would have been great.

I am 100% confident that no matter who plays QB for LSU this year, we will not have 7 pick 6s, so I think the offense is going to be fine.

Add in the fact that JJ seems confident, has great mobility, and is probably a better fit for Crowton's type of play calling, three things that Lee did not have the 2nd half of last year, and I think there is good reason to be optimistic about our offense.

As I said before, I have been a Lee defender, but I don't think there is any question that for the time being, JJ will, and should, get the first chance to lead this team.

Not just because its the best thing for the team, but for Lee as well.

And no matter who plays QB for this team, the difference between 1 and 4 losses will be the play of the Defense IMO.

OL and QB pose big enough problems that we will not sniff 2 or fewer losses. That results in 3-4 and coaching guarantees 3-4, maybe even 5-6. Chavis can't do it all himself, and he had as many average or bad D's over the years as he had great ones.

Expect 3, be prepared for 5.

Would you mind explaining this, or should I even bother?

Good review. I am also very confident about the defense, for the same reasons as you. We have the same talent we've had for the last several years, and we have good, proven coaches to coach that talent. That should spell a huge turnaround for our defense.

That's just dumb.

We threw that kid into the fire last year. If there's anyone to be mad at, it's RP. He's the one who screwed us.

Totally agree, jbirds1......spot on!

If put in to the fire this coming year, no matter the situation, JL will do just fine. Good kid, good athlete, he will be OK.

Anybody remember Jamie Howard?????? Can you spell "redemption?" I'm thinking the coaching JL has had this off season is better than the coaching Jamie had in his off season after the interception game.
