The loss of our best pass rusher has lead to CDA having to use LB blitzes too often to generate a rush. This opens YUGE lanes for a running QB.

Add to this the bend-but-don't-break defensive strategy CDA seems to have against the run, and this MSU team is downright not a good matchup this year. They very well could take the air outta the ball and eat up big chunks of clock, making the game real close in the final minutes... and flip a coin as to has the ball last.

For the same reason - as crazy as it sounds - I think we match up better against a Tua lead tide offense than a Hurts lead turd team.

What does a pass rusher have to do with playing MSU? They are among the worst in the country at throwing the football. Seems pretty irrelevant

I disagree. They are one dimensional on offense, we can keep our corners on island and shut down all they can do, we have a great matchup on that side of the ball

1. MSU sucks on offense. Don’t let the Auburn game fool you. They suck

2. We aren’t going to sacrifice run defense to try and blitz a guy who can’t throw.

Think coverage sacks.

Well, maybe we should just forfeit this game and get healthy for Bama.

I don't think we blitz much this game. No reason to, Fitz can't throw (especially with our DBs). We will play contain defense, stop the run, and make Fitz throw to beat us.

Which won't happen.

What MSU like to do is spread you out to keep you from putting too many in the box

The difference between us and auburn is that Ourbsafeties are much much much better.

Have to leave the corners on an island and play the run. Their offensive weakness is our defensive strength so they will try very hard to establish the run.

Maybe you shouldn’t say that the week after John Battle IV was run over twice in the same drive.

It's not a great matchup because LSU doesn't have much quality depth along the DL (not because LSU lacks a pass rusher). White is an outstanding sideline to sideline LB. But he can be blocked if you run right at him. If LSU's DL is not at least creating a stalemate and thus, allowing MSU's OL to get to LSU's LB, they could have some success...similar to what UF did (albeit in a slightly different manner).

I think it's up to LSU's offense to be aggressive and try to light up the scoreboard early. That would force MSU to abandon the run (to some extent). UGA decided to go away from the run and it absolutely killed them. They played right into LSU's strength. State won't abandon it so quickly. But if they are down 14-20 points in the first half then they will have no choice.

This^^^^ And maybe have one safety play deep, but have the other eight guys keying on the run and Fitzgerald. They are pretty one-dimensional.

Well Auburn’s safeties we’re abused and Delpit is a beast.

I agree that Fitzgerald can't throw the ball, but he couldn't throw it last year either, and he was 15-23 with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions against LSU. They're going to run and run and run, then take some deep shots. Only have to hit one or two.

I expect to see some run blitzs to break up play in backfield. Even if you dont get the tackle you likely bust the play.

Revenge game for last year is a good thing. I hope we hang 30 on them.

I agree that MSU may turn out to be a matchup problem if the d-line gets no push tomorrow.

I disagree about Tua. IF the d-line cannot be disruptive he will probably be very effective against the secondary. To date the pass rush has been fairly weak. Chaisson out must be a big reason why.

Not necessarily. As long as the defensive front guys can hold their blocks and occasionally win we will be fine. Last year the line got pushed 2 and 3 yards off of the line every snap. The linebackers need to make the right reads and attack the gaps. We need to form tackle and don't just hit Fitz with a shoulder..play disciplined football and we don't allow them much. I think they will score about 13 if we do all of these things.
