Ray Parker is a guy that might make sense as a 4-3 DE.

The idea that the 4-3 is ineffective against the spread is based on not ideal linebacker speed and inability to be in correct position.

With that being said. I think Pelini will switch to a variation of a 3-4 to benefit our roster.

Has he stated that we're definitely going back to 4-3?

I am Wondering where certain guys fit in.

We didn’t have 340 points NTs in Pelini’s system, and we have 3-4 on the roster

We also have a lot of guys in 230 that we’re going to be BOLB edge rushers who I don’t think can hold up to being 4-3 DEs without putting on significant weight.

It going to a real stransition. We also don’t have a ton of 4-3 OLB.

Posters on this site don't think coaches are smart enough to change schemes.

It's always, "he's a 4-3 guy" "he's a 3-4 guy" "he's a spread guy" "he's a pro-style guy"

It's kind of silly. LSU certainly could change to a 4-3, but it won't be because that's all Bo knows how to coach.

I'm not going to lie, I don't really know what the difference is between a 4-3 and a 3-4.

Seems to me you have 4 guys on the line in either defense and you need a larger DE on the strong side to hold up against the run while you want a smaller faster guy on the weak side who can rush the passer or drop into coverage.

Wouldn't those elements stay the same in either defense? It's not like you don't rush the passer off the edge in a 4-3.

Do the 2 DTs in a 4-3 usually play 1-gap where the NT in a 3-4 typically plays 2-gap?

What defense did we use against JFF and A&M? We beat them 2 years. I remember Manzel saying the first time we beat them, that everywhere he looked down field it appeared that all receivers were double teamed and that the qb rush was intense. I think that was Chavis and a 4-3

I keep seeing people list Roy as a 4-3 DE. To me, he seems like more of a 4-3 DT. Am I missing something?

Clemson runs a 4-3 right? And before anyone says yeah we put a blowout on them, Burrow only had a 63% completion rate against them. That was by FAR his worst completion % this year (71% was next worst).

We might list as a 4-3 defense, but we will probably only play a 4-3 for like 6 plays in a game!

The 4-3 defense is about to go the way of the dodo bird!

Alabama - spread
Arkansas- spread
Ole Miss - spread
Miss St - spread
LSU - spread

4 down linemen against 5 wide outs isn’t the recipe for success.

I think the whole concept of 4-3/3-4 etc is out the window.

Even this year, we lined up in different formations often.

Multiple is the way forward.

Without trying to project freshman, you are already looking at:

Logan - Shelvin - Ika - Farrell

Brooks as OLB/DE hybrid, depending on situation

Clark - Baskerville - Starks?

Vincent as Nickle
Stevens as OLB/Safety hybrid

Stingley - Harris/Hampton - Flott

I mean We recruited him to be a 3-4 DE, I got See him either being a big DE (Pelini routinely has DE in the 270-290 range) or going and being a DT in a 4-3z

In a 3-4 he was a DE.

Yes! Nickel is the new base. Aranda used both a 3-3 and a 2-4 depending on the talent available, and I don't see a 4-2 being all that different - just less of the edge guys dropping into zone coverage.

primarily Chavis's 3-2-6 mustang look, with a lot of nickel as well.

Chavis was a base 4-3 with the Sam usually being safety-sized or an actual converted safety (Harry Coleman, Stef Francois, Tahj Jones). Mustang in obvious passing downs.
