I'd take him over either, in a heartbeat.
And in case everyone has forgotten...Jefferson finished the regular season in 2011 with the highest QBR in the SEC (163.5).
You are saying you would take Etling over a QB that beat Bama on the road and had a very similar (slightly better) stat line.
I am reserving judgement and hoping for the best

Anyone that would take JJ over Etling is a fool. Based solely on football instincts.

Yeesh. All I am saying is we have a rough schedule still to get through. I counter your statement by saying that "Anyone who is ready to crown Etling as a good quarterback already is a fool".
I hope he proves it in November. Harris had good games too last year.

Carly is a freaking iiiiiiiidiot.

It's the voice man. Her voice is awful. Not helping when you gotta listen to Matt as well. I'm taking the week off of listening, hopefully that works because this is the only station that'll cover LSU in depth

Lol. You guys are unbelievable. I'll gladly take a turnover a game in exchange for a competent offense that can complete a forward pass to multiple recs. Good god.
fricking this

But as far as "what more do people want"...how about a really good QB? Why would anyone not want a top notch QB? We don't have problems recruiting so there's no reason for us to never have one.
I'd like to see LSU with an elite QB as well. I'm hoping that Myles Brennan turns out to be the type of QB LSU has lacked, with the exception of Mett, for a while now.

Etling has looked pretty good. Bama is going to be a beast. If he continues to manage the game....short passes to keep the chains moving,,,,heavy run game and take a few shots downfield to keep them honest....LSU will be fine. Im excited.

He over throws routinely also so what's the deal with the over throws?? He's simply trying to get an accurate deep ball so he under throws sometimes. He doesn't have a rocket but it's hardly a noodle arm. I think it's as good as bama' QB that won all those games for them. McCarron

Yes, yes I would.

quote:You are just philosophically choosing the unknown over the known. Based on what we have seen you have no basis to compare Jordan Jefferson in the title game to Etling. Etling hasn't played anything close to that level of competition yet. And against a good defense in Auburn he didn't exactly shine.

You guys are forcing me to rag on the kid when all I am trying to say here is that he still has a lot to prove in terms of whether he is the answer and can lead us to the promised land. He has had good games, decent games, and one game I consider to be quite bad. People forget about his performance @ Auburn because of that last play...

Yes, we're really twisting your arm.

Whoa. I sad he is above average. Nothing more and nothing less.

I agree. It's fair to say that Etling is limited, and comparing him to past QBs who most universally agree were limited doesn't help his case.
Right now, his stats don't make him better than 2009 Jefferson, 2011 Lee/Jefferson, or 2013 Mettenberger. And it could be debated if he's significantly better than 2012 Mettenberger.
But that doesn't negate what he's done so far. 2009 and 2013 were 3-loss regular season teams. Etling will need to be better than 2009 Jefferson if LSU hopes to come out the other end of November as a 3-loss team.

quote:Man you guys are sensitive. I guess you are right. Danny Etling for Heisman. His wins at LSU will dwarf that of Jordan Jefferson and Zach. I am certain we will win all of our games in November including Bama...because Danny has left no uncertainty in evaluating his game. Zero. Zilch. Nada!
Yes, we're really twisting your arm.
We know he can make all of the throws. We know he can win on the road against good SEC teams. We know he can put together a complete game without turning the ball over.
We know these things right?

above average.I hope so. He will have a chance to prove it in November.

This. Truth is danny is very average. It's just odd seeing average qb play around these parts. Luckily we're talented enough to win with average qb play. It's really all we've ever needed
And this isn't even really an insult to Danny.
The BEST aspect of his game is his head. From what I've seen, I personally think he plays above his natural talent level because he's heady.
If I were him, I'd take that as a compliment. Not everyone has a bazooka. Not everyone is blazing fast. But a LOT of people play BELOW their capabilities.
To me, the greatest compliment you can give an athlete whether is ridiculously talented or, an average Joe is.........."you play above your level".
