Stories are "in the can" all the time when information about a coaching hire (college or pro) gets leaked.

How many articles have you seen announcing "Renewed interest in LSU Women's Basketball" & tickets being in high demand before a coach is announced?
I'm not talking about her presser either.

I personally knew about Nikki's hire on April 1st.Her press conference was on the 4th.
How 'bout that! It was all over the Vols boards on the April 2nd.

Do ya think that maybe.................just maybe, since the story was leaked at least three days before the presser, that there were folks inquiring about the program on the days leading up TO the presser? Wouldn't that constitute, "renewed interest"? And wouldn't all Scott had to do was ask someone in the department about that BEFORE the presser. Come on now, this isn't calculus..........
Nikki's hire has caused a renewed interest in the program. Is this REALLY a major issue for you....................................? Really?

Well if you would stop only focusing on television contracts and focus on fan attendance, merchandise, etc. you would realize there is still money to be had for women's basketball at LSU.
fan attendance won't be nearly enough as already stated. Rag even gave you a rough estimate of 30,000. Now let's double that for concessions ... 60,000 ...
Merchandise?
There is no "etc." ... good try.
So that brings us to 62,000 .... let's say with a ceiling of 70,000.
Now, if LSU makes a postseason tournament .... go ahead and deduct the cost of airlines and bus/hotel/food for that one trip. Let's just say, $1000 per player (which would be cheap for a 3 night hotel stay) plus a trainer and coaches and only reach the first round. 15 people ...
That's 15,000 ...
70,000 - 15,000 = 55,000
Congrats, you didn't lose 2.3 million, you lost 2.25 million ... Plus a ridiculously high salary for Nikki Caldwell.
The sport makes no money and never will. The market for the coaches should be lower and LSU doesn't need to compete with the ridiculously over priced market. Look for a good coach at a lower level who you can pay 200 - 300K and build the program from there.

I'm not going to sit here and quibble with money with you but if you got 5,000 butts in the stands per game for a women's game and each paid five bucks for concessions alone that's 25k.
Unlike you, however, I don't presume to know what the numbers are. So you can continue throwing out some arbitrary number and act as if it has meaning, but it's still page 8 in a women's basketball thread and you're trying to tell us that there hasn't been some increase in demand. bullshite.

Nope. Ain't gonna happen. LSU will compete for the best coaches and that's pretty much it. They're not going to take a step back and take the cheap way out. The market demands the salary that Nikki is getting. So, now the question is, since this upsets you so much what are you going to do about it....................just bitch and moan on a message board?
Quit worrying about money that's not even yours to spend or save in the first place. Just enjoy being an LSU fan and wish our teams well. Throwing out arbitrary numbers, when you're not privy to the actual budget, is a waste of time.
The contract has been signed. The money has been invested. The recruits have been signed. The season tickets are being sold. It is what it is. LSU is not going to shortchange one of the most visible sports on campus. You're foolin' yourself if you think they will at this point.

This one's for you clamdip!!
Coach Caldwell at her presser...............
I think we can see why there's been a "renewed interest" in the program.

Rabalais Thinks Nikki's Salary is Justified
Good job Scott!
