Rag, almost ran out of breath reading your debate. Don't believe you would have made it before the bell rang in a true debate and the above statements seem somewhat contradictory.

quote:

you are taking offense to my opinion and that's pretty shallow ..

Take another look at what I wrote my friend, it simply asked for an explanation of what you said. I enjoy all LSU sports and the notoriety it brings to my school as I am surrounded by Trojans and Bruins.

We do have several things in common however, in that we both appear to be LSU fans, that TD is a boot, like facebook, which is just another reason not to work, and debating different issues can be educational and fun at times.

Perhaps we should weigh the merits of debating the effect negative comments have on our LSU team players, the coaches, their fan base and potential recuits to these sports that many individuals do in fact read?

But that's why you look at it incorrectly. We have no choice, we have to have a women's basketball team. So you then have two options:

1. Pay a women's coach that will likely win a high salary, put more people in the seats, and lose you less than 2.5 million dollars.

2. Pay a women's coach that is a total crapshoot or not a good hire with a very low salary, and put nobody in the seats, and lose upwards of 2.5M.

If our last two coaches are any indication, the first approach is more financially viable for the department. What's hard to understand about this? Just bitching to bitch?

TV contracts will stay the same. SEC will split them so tv contract money remains the same no matter who is at head. However, overpaying a coach by 400K will not be made up in attendance like you so absurdly think. Van wasn't fired bc the basketball team was losing money...

is this actually true ?

No, it's not true. The Nikki stories were in the can, 1 day before she was announced as LSU's coach.

Other than the "Nikki's hawt bro!" curiousity seekers/fans, it's still Women's Basketball.

That's great!
Only problem...................................women's basketball is not in existence to make money.

Right. He was fired because the program was going down the tubes.

Bwahahahahaha!
Shows how much you know.
One week after Nikki was announced, the athletic department took 200 new orders for women's basketball season tickets.

From lsusports.net LSU Tickets

Interesting that you can get 2011-2012 women's basketball tickets, but you can't order men's basketball tickets.

1. Season ticket sales arent over yet

2. It's better than the money that would have been lost with a shitty hire.

we get it...you don't like womens basketball. Honestly...i only watch when they're in the Final 4. But theres no reason to shite all over a thread because of it.

I hate broccoli....but you don't see me going over to the Food and Drink Board talking smack to all the broccoli lovers.

Exactly!
200 tickets in one week ($30,000)...............?
She's DEFINITELY worth the salary. That actually projects out pretty well by November.

Well if you would stop only focusing on television contracts and focus on fan attendance, merchandise, etc. you would realize there is still money to be had for women's basketball at LSU.

If you take those 200 ticket sales, factor into the timing to simply show increased demand for the sport, and have that translate into increased attendance at the games and revenue from food and drinks and other things at the game, you will have substantially more than $30,000. Not to mention, 30k in less than a few weeks is a nice immediate return on investment. Not sure any other hire could have netted that.

You DO realize that most of us who are or were Fastbreak Club members, season ticket holders, or just fans knew about the hire TWO DAYS before it was announced, right? Hell, they were even talking about it on ESPN before the formal press conference. Don't you think that once the word got out that there would be "renewed interest"?

Nice try though.

Actually there aren't many people "sporting" LSU Men's basketball Tshirts. But, there's a lot of people "sporting" LSU Tshirts. Who actually would care which team it has on it? I wear the same gear to all LSU Sports events because my polo, TShirts, and caps say LSU, not LSU Football, Basketballl, Track, etc.

No, a "Nice try" is having at least 5 stories in the can for publication, before a coach is announced, is called a "PR Campaign" or Public Relations campaign.

Yeah wow, Fastbreak Club..the all knowing.

Oh please..............grow up.

Stories are "in the can" all the time when information about a coaching hire (college or pro) gets leaked. We all know the formal press conference was AT LEAST two days after everybody already knew.................................except those of us who don't care about women's basketball, of course. To those folks, writing articles before the formal announcement of a hire is a "PR Campaign".

I guess the quotes in those articles were written before the individuals spoke them too huh?

I personally knew about Nikki's hire on April 1st. Her press conference was on the 4th. If I knew on that Friday, don't you think Scott Rabalais and the other writers probably had a little more info than me?
