It's like comparing apples and oranges. Two different styles. It's like saying Keith Urban can't rap as good as Kanye West. It's a comparison that can't be made.

Its unfair to compare the two. LSU is a traditional military style marching band. Southern is what I would call a show band. they try to play as loud as possible and dance.

Well the football at Southern is certainly more entertaining as well, so why not just go to Southern games and forego the LSU experience.

Depends on what you want in your ears/eyes.

LSU- tonality, precision, technicality, tradition.

Southern- brash, phrasing, showmanship, modern.

If the Tiger Band could pull off the moves of Southern, and keep their incredible sound, it would be the best marching band in history.

Band guys - don't waste your time on these people - I think they are just pressing buttons. Surely they know they are making this up as they go, or they are truly tone deaf - one of the two!

My point from the get-geaux. It's all about criteria. And assuming that one's criteria for judging is superior to another's criteria for judging, relative to entertainment, is pretty closed minded.

Exactly, LSUTANGERINE you beat me to it. That's exactly what I was going to say.

The majority of you have never seen the Jukebox in person and just throwing things out there just to push buttons.

As far as volume. LSU is truely louder than southern y? Southern only has about 200 members in their band. LSU has well over 300. LSU percussion section is wayyy bigger and they have more brass than Southern.

You people watch youtube too much and it's very misleading. The only thing they show is southern playing rap tunes. And the majority of the video is taken directly in front of the band. Well of course its going to be loud! I've never seen a band where all the members play "perfect" notes.

Southern plays all those little warmups, marches and classical tunes just like LSU. How bout attending a event and see for yourselves in person.

Or better yet ask all those LSU Golden Tiger band members that are often seen at Southern's band practice on a daily basis.

Does anyone have any idea how hard the Southern Band members work. All of the late nights spent in the band room and on the practice field.

Southern has traveled the throughout the country and the world; by invite.

I have not seen any HBCU school in the mold of a traditional band.

Stop the hatred! It is just a different culture.

P.S. This is the same Southern Jaguar's Band that produce American Idol's Randy Jackson.

Why doesnt La collages/universities have a battle of the bands. We do it in H.S., or used to. It would be interesting IMO.

I do. Both of my roomates when I was in undergrad were in the Jukebox. 7-9 every night rain, cold, or sleet they were out there practicing. (That is if everything was done right) You want to talk about disipline? You were not going out there looking like anything. You were expected to wear blue shorts, white tee shirts and knee high socks. Time in the band room? 2-6 in the morning, don't even mention gameday!

Not trying to bash anybody. I respect all the hardworking band members of both Southern and LSU. I just dont' respect those who try to bash and don't know a damn thing about the work that is put in to be in a great band.

Marching Band or Dancing Band. Depends on who you ask. Entertaining is seeing the tits on a dancing majorette or flag girl flop out because of the gyrations. Marching is more strict, focused and demanding. If you want entertainment, maybe a rock band or even a skit would do.

LOL, this is too funny! A normal Southern halftime show last 10 minutes. Of those 10 minutes, 9 minutes and 30 seconds they are marching and playing musical tunes. The last 30 seconds they do some sort of dance routine, but you label them a dancing band?

It is obvious that you have never seen southern band nor none of their shows in person and basing what you are saying on word of mouth. If I would do what LSU (so called army corp style) call "marching" in the army or marines, I would get my azz kicked everyday. The fact of the matter is all bands are "entertaining" if they were not they would not be a part of the halftime show!

I would prefer to watch Gramblings' band over LSU's honestly. More interesting.
