Video of Mondo Clearing 19 feet 1 inch
The following meet he cleared 19 feet 4 1/2 inches. The highest jump in the world so far this year.
Not bad for a 17 year old (Junior in HS).

I only started hearing about Mondo a few months ago. Apparently my mom taught his Antoine and his other older brother (competed at track at LSU?) but retired the year before she would have taught Mondo.
Sounds like he's the real deal and hoping he achieves his full potential.
When I was at LSU, there was a decent pole vault guy that I think was named Russ Bullard (or something similar). I remember somewhat knowing him but not that well. After I finished at LSU, Russ was at the US Trials (probably 2000) and snapped his pole at the approach. I happened to see it on ESPN but have never been able to find that video clip. Thought I'd mention it here in case anyone is able to find it.

If anyone is interested, Mondo will be competing in the Pre Classic Track Meet this weekend against the three guys who won medals in the last olympics. It will be on NBC and/ or NBCSN Saturday at 3pm.

i know his dad. his dad is very, very smart
I attend some meets here in Texas (Relays, etc) and I missed this year. Wish I would have made it, but the weather was bad.
Go and look at what he did in bad weather. Then come back and ask yourself if he needs to compete for the US and have to qualify or for Sweden and not. It's really a no brainer.

Mondo competed today in Eugene , Or at the Pre Classic, a Diamond League meet....Diamond League is the top of the professional meets. He took 4th at 18'-8 3/4". Two of the guys that beat him were medalist in last years olympics including the winner Sam Kendricks of the USA at 19'-3".
Another 16 year old from Norway, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, ran a 3:58 mile to become the first 16 year old to ever break 4. American high schooler David Principe from Rhode Island went 4:00:73.....second time he has gone 4 flat. Still a couple of high schoolers from Texas that will be going for a sub 4 soon. One has gone 4:00:63 and the other 4:03 at the Texas Relays earlier this year.

I'm going to watch his brother beat that Arky arse down instead. Hope Mondo wins it all though!

Sweden also bribed Mondo by naming his father Greg as Olympic team's pole vault coach.
