American Born only? Haha. I can at least see what you're trying to do with the other rules. What problem are you solving with this one?

Of course, it's good news for college baseball.

You have to ask yourself the real reason why.

To save a lot of money by cutting down the minor leagues, as well as signing bonus pools. Let colleges start the early development at zero cost to the MLB.

I like the no HS players in the draft part, but I don't like the part where they can all leave in two years. If that's the case, just keep it the way it is. I hate the 12 rounds idea. There used to be unlimited rounds, then it was 50, I think, then 40, and that was still a bit much. But they went all the way down to 20, and I think that's just fine. 12 is too few.

It would be an interesting trade off. I think I would take the trade. Get all high school kids on campus, but they are draft eligible after 2 years. Keep in mind, not everyone would leave after 2 years and if they really did reduce the draft from 20 to 10 or 12 rounds, that would keep more kids in college.

it would be as it's always been, in that players who are good enough to be high draft picks will almost always leave as soon as they are eligible, but now we'd have them all for one less year. That's not worth it to me, even if the trade off is more guys on campus. It's hard to build anything when guys don't stick around because of the portal, and this would make it even harder with guys bolting for MLB sooner.

And as a Braves fan, I don't like 12 rounds for the draft, because it's hard to stockpile talent that way. The draft is such a crapshoot, you need high numbers of players every year in hopes that you get fortunate with a few. And the guys who aren't good enough in your system just have to go find some other league to play or get a regular job, while new players are moved in. but it seems like MLB just wants to keep reducing the numbers every year, in every capacity they can. Reduced the number of minor league teams, which I was ok with, but they keep shortening the draft.

The rules now are pretty much this already. The draft is only for US & Territories, and Canada, intl players can only be drafted if they play college/HS in the states.
