Wonder if he stays, isn't that a bit early for Ochinko?

Yea... These middle rounds have been killer for us.

all of our players who have been drafted are heading pro, imo.

of our signees, the only ones who I think may still go to LSU are Von Rosenberg and Colvin, but I think Colvin will go pro as well.

We've been getting hammered. LSU is going to have a ton of question marks next season. Who is going to step up pitching besides Ott/AR? Who is going to be our power?

ZVR and Colvin could both be at LSU next season, and have immediate impact on the mound, this juco 1B kid could definitely fill the homer void left by Schimpf/Dean

Forrest Garrett is supposed to be really good as well. I think Baseball America had him ranked 86th overall a while back.

I've read good things about Alex Edward too.

Losing DJ's glove will be huge as well as Mitchell's speed too. I don't think any is going to replace Mitchell's speed on the team right now. Those two pitchers still have a opportunity to leave. If they leave, its going to hurt bigtime next year. We did recruit a ton of pitchers in this class though.

Damn why can't the Astros draft some Tigers? They are the closest thing we have to a local pro club and they seem to shy away from our Tigers. I would think they could have used Coleman, Mitchell, Ochinko, Schimpf, and of course Blake Dean. I'm glad our boys are getting picked but it's hard to catch them playing for the Twins, Royals, or Blue Jays unless you pay for full MLB package.

Ryan Schimpf- 5th round, 160th overall, Blue Jays
Zach Von Rosenberg- 6th round, 175th overall, Pirates
Brody Colvin- 7th round, 227th overall, Phillies
Chad Stang- 8th round, 256th overall, Brewers
Blake Dean - 10th round, 312th overall, Twins
Sean Ochinko - 11th round, 340th overall, Blue Jays

I didn't follow the draft during the Bertman era, did we used to have this many get drafted so high?

btw...MLB Hates LSU

My opinion, for what it's worth

Will sign pro contracts

Jared Mitchell- 1st round, 23rd overall, White sox
Slade Heathcott- 1st round, 29th overall, NY Yankees
DJ Lemahieu- 2nd round, 79th overall, Cubs
Lewis Coleman- 5th round, 152nd overall, Royals
Ryan Schimpf- 5th round, 160th overall, Blue Jays
Chad Stang- 8th round, 256th overall, Brewers
Stang is a hitter. He could come in and improve his stock, but will he improve much more than the 8th round? Plus, I believe that he's Canadian, so playing for the Twins in the Great White North may be a plus for him. Would not shock me if he came to LSU, but my gut says he signs.

LSU Next year

Zach Von Rosenberg- 6th round, 175th overall, Pirates
Again, everyting that we've heard indicates that it would take a sizable offer to keep him from coming to LSU. The Pirates aren't exactly the most free-spending team out there, and it's the 6th round.

Brody Colvin- 7th round, 227th overall, Phillies
Based on the article posted this morning, I think his mind was made up last night. He spoke with the Phillies yesterday, they waited until the 7th round...I think this is the safest bet of the signees who were drafted to come to LSU.

Blake Dean - 10th round, 312th overall, Twins
Sean Ochinko - 11th round, 340th overall, Blue Jays

I'm actually less confident about these two than I am about Colvin and Von Rosenberg, particularly Ochinko. 11th to the Blue Jays, who seem to have a Cubs-like LSU connection these days, was a bit higher than I had expected for Sean. Blake Dean should be able to improve his stock next year, but I'm not going to pretend to have information on his personal situation.

Wouldn't shock me either way. I do believe that if Dean comes back and has a "slumpless" season, he will go quite a bit higher. Of course, they lose that leverage if they are seniors. We'll see.

Scouts know about Dean's bat, the slump this year probably didn't hurt him at all. The only thing he could do by coming back would be show he can play a position, which he might not really have the opportunity to do.

After further review, I would like to change my answer! Ochinko probably goes, especially if Schimpf goes as well. There are more reasons for him to go than to stay.

I'll still hold out hope for Dean. He's better than 10th round.

Ochinko is gone. He's not really that great of a hitter (just remember his Freshman and Sophomore seasons), and was living off of batting .500 against scrub pitching at the beginning of the year. He was greatly over-achieving this year, which is great for him, but there's no way he will improve his status by coming back next season.

Agreed, but I'm not changing the post where I originally said that I thought he might stay. That just seems chicken shite, plus it screws up the flow of the posts. But yes, Virginia, Ochinko is gone (and we wish him the best).
