Normally, no, but this has been a weak portal. We have good players on our team for next year and don't necessarily need a superstar from the portal, which didn't exist this year.

Is it wrong to say, especially for a sport like baseball, I'm not all that concerned with who we sign due to the portal?

There are so many players out there. And we've already won two titles with two very differently composed teams.

We're also still 6 over the next year limit, so we're going to lose more.

ETA: And I'd rather lose guys to the draft than to other programs.

Also, do you want to develop your first 3 years in college or A ball? Depending on money, NIL opportunities, and financial needs can sway a guy. I would’ve thought we’d have a few more forgo the draft all together after yesterday. Either way, you have to recruit high profile guys just in case they want the college experience verse the minors. Some guys aren’t ready to take on the business life of the minors.

When’s the last day to sign?

The team is getting a lot back next season too, and kids demand immediate playing time. I would be way more worried about being decimated next season to the draft.

The way it's tracking is that we'll have a lot of draft sweats next year too.

But that's next years problem.

Matt Barr from SUNY Niagara in the 5th round, that's good because he was committed to Tennessee.

No doubt. Jay just seems so fail proof even though every coach has off seasons. I wouldn’t doubt us dominating the portal worst case.

Speaking of that, I would love to hear Henry Ford's name called to not have to deal with him at Tennessee next year.

Any stats on which SEC teams have lost the most commits? The Vols have at least 4, best I can tell? On top of several current players on this season's team, another 3 ?

Talked to a former LSU and MLB player. He said college is the way to go, A ball sucks.

It's important to remember that for all but a very select few, going to college doesn't preclude you from starting your pro career in Single A.

I think for a lot of kids college is a good transition too. Professional baseball is business, these are you compeition for moving up the system, you are quickly playing with guys that are much older than you.

Bear Jones taking offer over 50k is a good deal for him. He comes back and his signing bonus is 10-25k next year.
