So Chinea not drafted?
I still expect him to be gone though. There is no guarantee he is going to play C next year. And I'd be surprised if he wants to be the only one of the juniors coming back.

There are rumors out there that Ryan January will not be at LSU no matter where he is drafted. Have heard elsewhere that he has Mac Marshall syndrome and he just wants to major in baseball.
I also heard there were questions whether he was going to have the grades to be eligible.

I dont see why not, he was a decent catcher when he played there.
I mean at this point it's pure luck how much money he gets offered outside Top 10 rounds. It could be almost nothing in which case he can only do better by coming back. Having him back would be huge. When Papierski isnt catching he can and when Pap is catching he can DH.
Also wouldn't be the only junior back, Devall will be a senior too.

If January is pulling a Mac Marshall on us, I'd rather know now than in the fall. We lost a spot on the roster because of Mac, at least we'll be able to fill it this time.

Pap is much better defensively than Chinea, bring a DH the majority of the time won't help his draft stock.

He is in a very similar situation to Ochinko when he was a junior and he was drafted in the 11th round.

Pap is starting at catcher next year. Seems like Chinea's best option is to leave for junior signing bonus money.

Not sure Lochridge projects at SS, Dawson is the one they want at SS

I like him at SS, but could easiyl see him at 3B as well. We have aq number of guys who will compete for SS next year between Byrd, Lochridge and Dawson (assuming they both make it in).
Lochridge doesn't have the arm for SS. He'll likely end up at 2nd.

Just because Pap is elite and Chinea is still good doesnt mean Chinea cant improve his stock. Chiena could easily catch 15-20 games next year.

And how much is that really going to improve his stock catching less than 1/3 of the games next season? Also, what if he doesn't have a good year offensively next year? Plus, when he wouldn't be catching he probably would be a DH since we have a true 1B signed.

So can someone do me a favor and tell me what they expect the starting lineup to be next year, assuming only Fraley returns from this years lineup and we keep everyone who has not yet been drafted in our recruiting class. I don't know our recruits well enough, but Id like to know what we're looking at...

Not pointing fingers at all, but the consensus among Boxtards was that Kade would lose his spot to Pap by the start of SEC play. Instead, Kade showed us what he's made of. Nobody knows what the lineup will be. They can give your their best guess, and it will be an informed and educated guess by several posters who keep up, but it's still a guess.

I would be skeptical of any junior signing after the tenth round if there is any chance of improving their stock. Chinea has a big chance to prove he can catch.

that's because kade was awful behind the plate in the fall...for whatever reason
but he was damn near perfect defensively all year when the season started

I already said he would DH when not catching, but 15-20 games > 0 games (for scouts to see) and playing 1B did nothing but hurt his draft stock defensively. He was a much much better catcher. He deserves a chance there if he decides to come back. Keep in mind, we are out of Rounds 1-10 and now it's a crap shoot what guys get offered.

That wasn't me with that red thumbed; I understand the reasoning...Kade just made himself great.

Kade's defensive jump was night and day. It was truly amazing to see.
