From the Advocate…
According to MLB Pipeline's Prospect List, LSU’s Class of 2022 has five MLB Draft prospects projected to go in the first or second rounds: Bishop Gorman High School (Nevada) outfielder Justin Crawford, McQueen High School (Nevada) left-hander Rob Snelling, Hammond High School (South Carolina) third baseman Tucker Toman and Orange Lutheran (California) shortstop Mikey Romero. After that,
Johnson estimates there are five or six more on the fence between the major leagues or college baseball. That includes Barbe High School shortstop Gavin Guidry, Sierra Canyon right-hander Jaden Noot, IMG Academy (Florida) catcher Brady Neal, Troy High School (NY) Michael Kennedy, Central High School (Pennsylvania) outfielder Paxton Kling and Legacy High School (Texas) right-hander Chase Shores.

“I think there are four that have no chance of showing up here next year based on the season they had and where they are and it is what it is. I'm going to move forward to get us what we need. I'm not gonna let any one player hold our program hostage. It's a complicated issue that I spend every day working on.”

Sometimes we get lucky with the draft, but it usually bends us over when it comes to our signing class.

D Crews was somewhat of a surprise to make it to campus but I think nobody will argue that he didn’t improve his draft stock by coming to LSU

I'm a little surprised to see Romero in the "no chance" category. I think it was understood that he would go pro if selected in the first round but that seemed 50/50. Johnson seems to be saying it is a lock.

I think you need to add Misiorowski in the 6 listed in the second category. I'm a little suprised not to see Jones listed there as well.

Even if we lost everyone of those players listed it would still be a good class. Let's hope we can hold on to most of them and make this class outstanding.

Without a doubt. He is listed between 40-60 on most top prospect list. He is not in the first round of most recent mock drafts. He was looking like a second rounder. There seemed to be some hope of first round or go to school.

Johnson is implying that he is likely to go in the first round. I know this is rare for a TD poster but I'm going to assume Johnson knows more than me but I'm not 100% convinced of that. lol

He’s saying he will be prepared either way and I love it. Protect LSU and figure out numbers when you need to. Don’t sit there and just hope shite goes our way

The danger zone is kind of the top 100 or so, not just 1st rd

If you remember just last year Carter Jensen (78) & Brock Selvidge (92) both went into the 3rd & collected $$ because KC went under slot in the 1st & the Yankees pinched in rd1-2.

It's a little crazy how it is set up. You need to put plan B in place first with the portal and then see how plan A works out. You make a good point. I feel confident in Johnson's ability to handle that balancing act.

Good point. I hate to lose Romero, but hopefully we can hang onto Guidry if Romero goes.

If we land a big transfer at SS it certainly eases the loss of Romero.

It’s crazy how so much depends on the team that drafts you. Which poorly run franchise do we need to take our players?

Hopefully we get a little luck, and Jay can convince a few more than expected to turn down the money and come to school.

The pieces are there to have a phenomenal class.

LINK

MLB.com had this article. LSU has 3 of the 10 they mention. By looking at the numbers on Misiorowski I think we can say goodbye to his chances.

NIL deal needs to step up for a few of these guys, especially Romero. It won’t be the same as MLB bonus money but perhaps the idea of making some decent money while attending college, experiencing college life, playing in front of a larger crowd than you’ll see in minor league, and starting on your degree might actually be enticing to some guys. I don’t know. I guess it depends on how much money they are offered by MLB.

That's where NIL comes into play.

I think some of the negative vibes recently on Romero come from someone (Maybe Mikie Mahtook) stating his number to sign is not a crazy high number. Someone will give it to him.

It will be interesting in managing the returning guys as well. SS is a concern as well as filling in 2nd and 3rd.
Dugas possibly being gone as well is a lot of offense lost from this year’s team.
