No one misses Les, but I do miss the dominant defenses and being able to dominate the LOS. Players also had stamina to play with violence the entire game. We would win a lot of games simply because we were bigger and faster. I miss those days. We won in despite of having terrible offenses and mismanaged games.

You can’t coach offense the way Miles did and win titles today.

Michigan did it just last year.
7 of their 15 games they had less than 200 yards passing
5 of those were under 150 yards passing

From Nov 1 - end of season, Michigan averaged 175 yards passing on 23 attempts per game.
in 2015 From Nov 1 - end of season, LSU averaged 213 yards passing on 29 attempts per game.

Actually, JJ ran "Wizard/s" scheme pretty well in '09 considering the OL problems and lack of ground game.
'09 QB stats pretty much matched Flynn's except for wins, iirc.

If Joe had never come to LSU, it would have made Kelly's path less painful.

O set a high bar before Woody pulled the rug from under him. Pellini!

Les didn't want Burrow, he wanted Jayden. He chased that mobile, dual-threat QB for years but could never get a good one.

Kelly can also use adjectives other than "quality" to describe opponents, so he's got a leg up on him on that.

Are you saying Arranda wouldn't have recommended Busch to Miles, the guy who pointed out Jeaux to Steve?
Now Brady joining might be a bit far fetched, but not a signing duel between Cincy and LSU.

So a coach who averaged 3 loses a year like Kelly?

Miles had teams other teams feared. Killers. Can’t say the same thing about our current squad. While defense does have a few bright spots, it’s mostly scrubs that wouldn’t have sniffed the starting line up on a LM team. Same thing goes for running backs…and receivers to a certain degree.

I grant you the toughness, physicality, and defensive prowess are missed, but he didn’t field a really good team after 2012. His approach was too antiquated to win. You need balance, and he suffered from a marginal to non-existent passing game while Kelly suffers from a non-existent running game. The 2019 offense needed CEH in the ground game to be as effective as it was.

Kelly isn't quite the master of that aspect either
