LSU fans give ovations to other teams players, so that people will talk about it, not because they think the player earned it. whatever happened to homefield advantage ?

ETA: damn, someone beat me to it.

I'm a little bit tired of "LSU baseball fan" letting everyone know how "classy and knowledgeable" they are by clapping for the other team's coach, or a diving catch, or a good pitching performance.

I love LSU baseball, I was at the game tonight. But I think a lot of people in Alex Box Stadium stand and clap for plays for selfish reasons.

"Hey look at me, I'm clapping for the other team. I'm such a great baseball fan. Hey guys from the other team, what do you think of me? I was clapping for you. Do you really like me? Don't you think I'm a swell guy?"

I really, really don't understand this cynical kind of thinking. Is it so hard to believe we could be so magnanimous?

Bit of generalization, but yeah. A lot of people do it for that reason.

Pretty cynical POV.

You don't think it's possible some of us MIGHT just appreciate good baseball, no matter WHO makes the play?

First off he didn't pitch shutout ball. Not sure how no one corrected that.

Also I'm with zealot. I don't mind cheering when you're beating a team down but I did not cheer when he came out in a tied game.

There's a difference between pitching 8 and 2/3rds of shutout ball with 17 K's than hitting a solo homerun.

He allowed one batter to score so he basically pitched shutout ball after the 2nd batter of the game.

LSU fans giving ovations to opposing teams/players is nothing new.

Those who have been going to games since the 90's will tell you this to be true.

I agree with most of that. I clapped a couple of times for him but I sure didn't stand up. The are a ton of "look at me" baseball fans.

Yes, I believe that many "LSU baseball fans" are that magnanimous. I read it on here all the time. Usually, on Monday, I'll read a post on here asking, "Hey, does anybody have any quotes from the opposing team coach praising our fans?" When you do it for the right reasons, you aren't looking for somebody to write you a thank you letter so that you can pat yourself on the back. What the coach from Air Force did was write a very sincere letter. Then I kept reading here from "LSU baseball fan" that "Hey, the Air Force coach thought we were great. Did the Michigan coach say anything? What about the Dartmouth coach, what did he say?"

LSU baseball fans have a history of being gracious to opposing teams, and many opposing coaches and players have said so. That is a source of pride for many of our fans. What's so wrong that? It's OK to be proud of yourself when you deserve it. Lighten up.
