russell - didn't recruit
flynn - didn't recruit
mett - transferred from juco
so what QB has he recruited out of highschool that he's trusted to throw?
Russell - was LSU's QB for 2/10 years
Flynn - was LSU's QB for 1/10 years
Mett - was LSU's QB for 2/10 years
So you're automatically discounting literally half of Miles' tenure... but we'll continue dissecting this anyway.
Ryan Perilloux was recruited by Miles, and was trusted to throw. As a sophomore in 2007, He was 51/75 for 694 yards 8 TD and 2 INT. Barring what ended up happening with his off-field behavior, Perrilloux would have started the 2008 season and arguably 2009 as well.
Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee, unfortunately, comprise the only tangible evidence for "recruited QBs" by Miles. The tragedy is that both were "program guys" and neither should have been expected to start a game for us. Nevertheless, the two combined for 267 passes 2043 yards 20 TDs and 5 INTs in 2011.
Two misses in recruiting have proved huge for the lapse of QB production at LSU. Zach Lee in 2010, who was, as an EE, was already the best QB on campus that summer in 7-on-7s, and Gunner Kiel in 2012, the No.1 prospect in the country who lit it up at Cincinnati this year.
Insert Anthony Jennings, another "program QB" who by all means should be depth behind Gunner Kiel at the moment and who would (and will likely) be passed on the depth chart by Brandon Harris in the future.

Isn't that the same guy who was 38% in the SEC when it counted the most?
We can blame Les and Cam for not having a QB ready to play in the SEC, but you have to be fricking nuts to demand more passing from guys hitting on less than 50%.
LSU had the 109th best passing attack and the 24th best rushing attack. It's laughable that people wanted us to throw the ball more when we couldn't even complete 50%.

LSU was SEVENTY FIFTH in attempts when they had an NFL ready QB, and two WRs who would blow up as NFL rookies.
SEVENTY frickING FIFTH.
I mean, that's just f'n absurd.

I agree with everything Miles said (the quoted parts in OP, at least).

These guys we're recruited to play, not be roster spot fillers. Yeah, they got thrown in early, but Lee was serviceable in his short field opportunities his senior year, Jefferson regressed during his career, and Jennings didn't show any promise throwing wise during the season.
I'm optimistic about the defensive staff changes because I think the defensive play and recruiting had stagnated. Until we see some massive changes in QB production, I'll continue to doubt the staff's ability to evaluate and progress a high school QB.

In 2004 Oklahoma had Adrian Peterson and they attempted 406 passes.
In 2013 LSU attempted 326 passes.

The goofy but polite Les used to be likable. This new goofy but arrogant Les is wearing thin real quick.

Against FBS schools in 2013, LSU was 110th in passing attempts and 46th in rushing attempts. They ran the ball on 59.98% of plays, 17th highest in the Nation.
They were also T-11th in yards per play, 3rd in yards per pass attempt.
However, in games decided by 10 points or fewer:
TCU 37-27 - 32 pass attempts
GA 41-44 - 37 pass attempts
Miss 24-27 - 33 pass attempts
Ark 31-27 - 29 pass attempts
Which would rank 67th Nationally in Att/Game
For those who ranked higher, over half failed to achieve winning records for the season.
Playing with a Lead = Rushing
Playing from Behind = Passing
Be thankful that more often than not, we were playing with a lead. If not for a display of last minute heroics from Jennings and Dural, we're likely 1-3 in our "pass happy" games.

So you're saying that we completely blew it in recruiting these no talent hacks for quarterbacks?
Personally, I think these guys have a chance to be good quarterbacks, but the way we conduct our offense completely limits what they can do.

I'm genuinely shocked. Les has never said anything remotely this critical of any particular player or position.
"Misery." Damn. But I'm glad I heard him finally acknowledge flaws rather than maddeningly coachspeak around the issue.

I love this site and enjoy the back and forth that goes on a lot of times.
But it still sometimes surprises me that things have to be all one way or the other for certain posters. There are some that just seem to hate Miles and all they ever post is negatives and bashings. There are others that all they ever do is dispute the posts of those that post the negatives and bashings.
It seems like people are so caught up in there side that they are always moving the goal posts.
ie: Q - why not pass more. A- because our passing game sucked. Moving goal posts - well it's your fault cause you never have good quarterbacks. A - Well, X,Y&Z were good quarterbacks and we threw a lot while they were here. Moving goal posts- Well, they don't count because you didn't recruit them.
Or I remember when the big thing a few years ago was "we're like .500 against the SEC in the last 4 years. Now it's like "Well, we're 23-9 against the SEC" in the last 4 years. And the goal posts move to - "well, yeah but the "trend" is what's important now.
There is a lot to point out that Miles has done wrong. But some are just so adamantly against him that these are the only parts of his tenure that they can see. (and yes, there are those on the other opposite side too).

Yep. Miss St and Ohio St have power running games out of the shotgun with 3 and 4 WR sets and put their QBs in an offense that fits their skill sets. Watching both of those teams play this year made me want that scheme for us badly. And I know we don't have Barrett/Jones or Prescott, but you can't sit there and tell me that Jennings or Harris wouldn't be better suited in those offenses as opposed to ours.
