Certainly the want for improvement is both sincere and measurable. The quality and execution of passing concepts paired with 3 or 4 very capable backs will surely be enjoyed and parlayed into victory.

I think we're looking forward to the challenge.

Talk is cheap. No reason at all to talk about improved passing. He says similar things every year. If they feel like they have a real qb and passing attack it does him no good to chirp now. Unleash the beast during play. Very happy Aranda is in place for the defense but haver to temper expectations on offense bc the same guys are in charge. Hope Craig has more input bc he has upside.

I'm as frustrated with the passing woes as anyone but the responses in this thread are ridiculous. People whine that Miles won't practice or put emphasis on improving the pass game. He comes out and admits they are spending a ton of time practicing passing and people still complain.

We say that because of this:

quote:

LSU has underachieved, wasted talent and likely missed out on championships because of a dreadfully inconsistent passing game that is regularly ranked outside of the top 100. Miles can SAY whatever he wants in reference to improving the passing game. Until it actually happens however, people are justifiable in their doubt.

The fact of the matter is that Miles says this stuff every year, only this time he is talking about it more in detail. I believed him like a fool every offseason only to be disappointed once the season begins. Of course he is going to say all this after the debacle late last season (on and off the field).

This year I'll wait til 2-3 games have been played before I believe anything. Remember going up 14-0 on Miss St only to completely shut the offense down like midway through the 2nd quarter? We were literally a missed FG by Miss St away of winning only 8 games (9 if you included the week one cancellation).

Yeah you are right. LSU never throws the ball. The worst disappointment was the year we had Mett and Landry and Beckham and we still didn't throw the ball.

We will really know it's crap when we hear him talk about how great DJ Chark looks just like he did last spring and finally played him 1 play against TT. Ok I'm done. Sorry just had to rant.

People get caught up on this. You guys realize he says a lot of people have a good spring and majority of them play big roles in the up coming season. People just focus on the one guy that doesn't and states that everything Miles says is bs.

Glad you brought that up. LSU had two pro bowl receivers an NFL starting QB and RB and still loss games they shouldn't have.

Look, I understand that everyone thinks that the talk of a passing game is just Miles crying wolf.

I'm not 100% on that train.

I think you have to be pretty naive to think that the weeks leading up to the A&M game didn't knock some sense into him.

I can't, with good conscious, believe that him knowing he's coaching for his job this year. There's no doubt that the higher ups went to put a foot in his arse and he came out realizing that this is for real if he doesn't change. You can rest assure that the "big guys" had a come to Jesus meeting with him and laid it out for him.

Yes, theres been seasons hed said there would be more passing, but it didnt include whats been going on this offseason. How many other seasons has he said he'd study other systems? How many other seasons has he sent coaches to other schools?

As much as I'm tired of the same conversation, I just feel like he knows he's coaching for his job. If he wants to stay, he will do what is necessary.

They have had plenty of film and time to study the two opponents passing games from the past few seasons that almost mirror our philosophy on offense, that being Ark and BAMA. I would say both have the "efficient" passing game we desire yet neither are true "spread offense" systems. Both have average QB to run the system. They seem to utilize more options in the pass game and not rely on the "down field" game as the primary option, unless an obvious mismatch exists. They also take full advantage of mismatches due to talent or formation. West Coast as it was called to me is an efficient passing game with big time quick strike capabilities with enough talent at wide out. Everyone think back to last years spring game and remember your feeling about the passing game then (i.e. Dupre diving end zone catch, TD passes aplenty etc.). If we see a passing O this spring game that has more hook, curl, slant, drag, combination routes while utilizing TE and RB in a shorter passing game to compliment our stout running game then we may be on to something. But if we see 5 TD's of 40 or more yards then.....

I hate saying this, because I was a Miles defender for many years, and still want him to succeed, but last year kind of did me in. BUT, I can see us really trying to pass the ball in situations that don't call for the pass just to say we were trying to pass.

Our power run game is fine with me, if we knew how to implement an efficient passing game with it. So that when we play teams that can stop the run, we're not putting Harris, or whoever the qb is, in situations where Tom Brady or Drew Brees would struggle to succeed. Thats all I want to see from Miles, is the ability to attack a defense with what they are giving you.

He does say similar shite every year, but he's saying way more of it this year and being more specific. He's never laid on the "we're working on passing game" this thick and this early.

Hopefully it's true. Honestly if we are just average in the sec in passing and top 3-4 in turnover margin we'll be very, very tough to beat.

Our defense will be stout as hell and our ST will be much improved.
