May be true. But Saban before this run at Alabama was not the same coach, and certainly not the same success ratio.

Answer the question in terms of Saban at Alabama... short list.

Miles, Meyer, ???

Nah, I think Miles was a good coach and recruiter. Miles simply failed to change when the game changed around him. With a good OC with no chains on his wrist Miles and LSU would have been much more competitive with Saban and Bama for the number one spot.

So context counts? You can't have it both ways. Alabama wasn't the same program it is now when Miles got those wins. Saban had to rebuild it first. Now that they're clicking, I don't see any evidence Miles knows some special secret to beating them. If he does, it would have been nice if he would have used it while still at LSU.

Urban wasn't the coach at Utah when they beat Alabama.

Miles should not be given advise on the sport of football PERIOD unless it's with players from the 60's or early 70's in that case they would be wise to listen

That is like the French military offering advice on how to stop the German military during WW 2.

Miles simply wanted to be the second coming of Bo Schembechler, and it cost him his job.

Per campus insiders. I don't think Petersen needs his 3-7 record against Saban recommendations.

Probably so, but Miles was asked for his opinion and he simply gave it. For all his flaws as a HC, I do think Miles was right about the Alabama D-line being Washington's biggest challenge to deal with. I really don't see how they'll be able to move the ball much against that defense. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

Miles refusal to change the offensive philosophy gave Saban the leg up on recruiting. Now he's even grabbing the front running kids from La. Thats too much to overcome.

This. Miles is the last person you want giving advice on how to beat Saban. If laughable to think otherwise

All kidding aside , it's really sad that Les was so damn stubborn and refused to modernize the offense. That was literally all he was asked to do differently. And it was obvious to everyone that we needed to, but he just wouldn't do it.

Seriously.

If Miles said "I'm never touching the offense and I'm hiring an elite OC to do whatever they want" he'd still be coach and we'd be in the playoff.

we'd be in the playoff and he'd be celebrated at some point.
