Wisdom and maturity trump emotional impulseness. Now if he were to repeat something like such poor time management as the Ole Miss game. Then I would be the first to say let see who might be a better coach and is willing to come to LSU.

But if he were to repeat the gutsy 4th down performances against Florida?

those guys don't want to think about things like that because that would cause their continuous crying to be all for not.

I couldn't have said it better myself! Miles isn't perfect, but who is! Stoops lost Bradford last year at Oklahoma to injury early in the season. The result - 5 losses. What are you going to do? Fire Stoops?
In this generation of "I want it NOW!", fans are too quick to want change when things aren't perfect! That is why marriages don't last. That is why Obama was elected for heaven's sake! He is ruining the USA. Do we want to ruin LSU?
A great season is possible (and maybe probable) this year for the Tigers! How would you like it if LSU wins the National Championship in 2010 and Miles bolts to Michigan to spite ungrateful fans?

A long post ahead, and don't tell me you don't read them because LSU football to people on this list is like heroin. Every chance you get to get a fix and rant and rave, you take. Here goes!
I guess it's because I am older, but I am more tolerant than I used to be. I have come to realize that the best of people do stupid things and the worst of people occasionally do something good. Yet, when it comes to LSU football my intolerance for losing rears its ugly head. When I was in my twenties and thirties, I hated every loss with a passion while being convinced that it was always the coach's fault. I don't see it like that too much any more. The coach and the QB get too much credit when we win and too much blame when we lose.
To the people that say Saban would have had each and every team ready without fail, I would respectfully disagree. He hasn't cornered the market on genius. I respect him and Urban Meyer as coaches; however, I really don't care for them as human beings. I hope their public personna is not their private personna. I sometimes wonder if Saban has ever had a headset stay on his head for more than five minutes at a time while in a fit of rage.
I really don't expect miracles and championships each year. What I do expect in every game is competition, the feeling that we can win, and a refuse to quit attitude. I remember many years ago I went to the Notre DAme game in South Bend. Football Mecca it seemed like to me. In the midst of all the ND fans that I had made three hour friendships with, we go ahead. ND was also on the ropes back then. The fans get despondent, but I told them the game was not over and our coach (Dinardo I believe) would find a way to lose. At that moment, a ray of sun peers through the clouds, shines down on our team, and we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Our loss to them made ND's season. That is NOT WHAT I WANT FROM LSU. Neither does any one else on this list.
Miles has the potential to turn it around and make tough decisions. I notice though his tough decisions seem to be tempered with humanity and grace, something I had no use for in my twenties. With his coaches and players he doesn't seem to go for their throat when something goes wrong, like Perrilloux or the co-coordinators. He gives them a modicum of grace as they leave for something else.
Chavis seems like a good hire along with the two new assitants, Gonzales and Wilson, for this year. I see it this way. As Jefferson goes, so goes the team. I have the feeling he was taught to be tentative and cautious. Couple that to poor, very poor, line play and you had a recipe for sacks and CBLs. All of this came after hearing that we had the best OL ever. I almost started to salivate last year.
I was not impressed with the spring game. Lee looked better to me than I thought he would be. The new freshman, Zach Lee, who is the combination of Nolan Ryan and Joe Montana, seems to bring hope. If he is tht good, he should play. As a true freshman, I find it hard to believe and sort of hope it doesn't happen for his sake.
I honestly do not beleive there is a team we can't beat. Will we have a perfect season? No, becuase my medication is now kicking in and bringing me back to reality. Morale, a "chip on their shoulder attiutde," and a hungry desire to prove themselves will go far to move this team back to high quality.

These arguments always turn stupid when you are involved.
quote:
When they occasionally slip from it, they fire and hire coaches until they're back to it. Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, Alabama, etc. do not think 8-4 on a consistent basis is OK just because it could be 4-8 instead if they fire a coach.
Neither does LSU.
So far, we have. And, more to the point of this thread, the OP clearly does.
Nobody here thinks 8 - 4 is ok. Everyone wants better. We had three great years with Miles. The last two have been disappointing, EVERYONE AGREES. Now stop acting like people here are satisfied with 8 - 4.
And I love the "4 million" comments. So y'all would be satisfied with the last 2 years if Miles was only making 1 mil a year? Man that's just crazy. It is a very bad argument and I laugh whenever someone brings it up.

Les Miles as head coach is the administrator of the LSU football program. Thus, the period of time that the program is under his control is his "regime". If you knew the true meaning of the word (not just its political use) you would know that it means a system of management.

Saban didn't have a quality team that year. I compare the 2001 team to the 2006 team.
Who's fault was that?

Those wre very gutsy calls. He had confidence in THOSE players to get it done. The last two years he has NOTR had that confidence.

I agree 100%.
I feel like there has been something different with Les these last two years. Maybe it was not having confidence in his players, or he became complacent due to his contract. I don't know and nobody here does. But I think he can turn it around. If he doesn't, well then we can talk.

Overall record Miles 51-15 at LSU. Better than any coach to step onto the sideline.
Have a great day.

quote:Yeah, if you concentrate on the "10 percenters", which you and many of your followers seem to do. I can find any 10 percent of any population who are idiots. I live by the 80/20 rule, when I say the criticism will stop, this is what I mean. No way can you ever shut every one up, it's a free country full of loudmouths. Just check our political discourse right now and even the right wingers who come on the sports threads and bash the President. That's what we've got to work with.
You don't actually believe this do you? Too many ranters have vested too much attacking Miles. Nothing will calm them down. An undefeated season would bring them out bitching about the number of first downs opponents made.
