Why has the rant been acting like this guy was for sure going to be in an LSU uniform the whole season?

I think you're confusing him with someone else. Perhaps Gavin Guidry from LA who is also a SS (granted nobody in the know was saying that for him either, but he is on campus at least)? Nobody in the baseball threads were acting like hw was for sure going to be an LSU uniform.

But there was a decent chance we were going to get him.

Pretty sure everytime a poster was shitting on Jordan Thompson, everyone kept saying "we got the best high school shortstop in the country coming in, no worries!"

If people were saying he was the best HS shortstop in the country it should have tipped you off that they weren't exactly clued in to anything.

He had a really strong showing at the MLB draft combine last month, and there were some rumors of a family illness that made his decision to go pro a lot easier within the last few weeks.
Paxton Kling was a first round guy and he pulled his name out of the draft. Vandy had a pitcher commit do the same thing. Crews did it in 20. It can always happen.

Because he wasn't always a lock to go in the first round and wasn't always a lock to sign. I know this may seem crazy, but player values can fluctuate over time.
And there are questions about whether Romero can stick at shortstop long term and how much power is in his bat. He's fortunate that the Red Sox place such a premium on hit tool that those other things don't worry them. But if the Red Sox didn't pick him there, who knows when the next team would have grabbed him.

Kling was specifically cited as a late first, early second round guy based on his performance this spring. That puts him squarely where Romero was drafted.

He committed to lsu by the end of the first day of jays Hiring. Without ever visiting or anything. College was always a straight leverage play for him, and I knew that at that moment

He has a good relationship with CJJ and wanted to go to college. He is a guy that would have showed up if he didn’t get exactly what he wanted. Think if teams were going to be taking him 40+ he would have been coming.
And I think there was some talk at one point about him possibly slipping. So the 2 things had people hopeful.

If the remaining prospects, who is most likely at risk? I know the bonuses will start dropping quickly in the later rounds, but a team like Texas that will have some added bonus budget because of Rocker concerns me.
