It's still just a master plan. They were supposed to renovate both buildings in previous plans.

I personally would pay for the honor of being the first to take a sledgehammer to Lockett. It might be a good way to raise money for a good cause, like buying out the contract of a certain basketball coach.

Yes, none of this is really binding.
Lockett was marked to be removed in the 2003 Master Plan created under Emmert. But Middleton Library remained in place in that plan and ostensibly was only going to be renovated. 2003 plan
What makes this plan different is that some of the components are already under way. For instance, the BoS document I linked up earlier has a followup presentation from Res Life about tearing down the greenhouses over by ECA, tearing down Blake/McVoy/Herget/Acadian annex, and building 6 new residences halls to replace them. This plus the activity over near Kirby Smith Hall and along Nicholson demonstrate that what's presented is also well underway toward being built. That does make this plan a little more exciting.
Finally, and I'm not trying to CSB here, but I chatted with Alexander a year ago in DC at an alumni event and brought up the library. He seemed pretty committed to tearing it down. Of course, there's a lot of planning and money that are needed to make it happen. But I'm optimistic in that this plan makes this more of a possibility than the previous one did. The conversation about Middleton has shifted thankfully.

Have been to some of the Campus Master Plan meetings. If they manage to get all of it done, campus will be absolutely incredible, even if there a couple of things that probably still need to be added.

his has been a long time coming. Landscape architecture students were studying the removal of Middleton, Lockett, & CEBA 15 years ago. They did not fit the architecture of campus.

I hope the university will similarly engage architecture students to think about what a new library could and should look like. Middleton was a travesty but a whole bunch of people in the administration approved it. After the South end zone addition that bastardized the look of the North endzone, I'm a little worried that the current leadership similarly lacks any credibility in making this decision. That said, the Taylor Hall (engineering) renovation and addition seem to look really solid.
I wonder if the university would consider incorporating some version of the original Hill Memorial Library that was downtown into a new plan. (The new Pentagon and the conversion of Alumni Hall into the Journalism Building both harken back to structures that were in the downtown campus.)
A new library would certainly have to be bigger than this original downtown building. But the dome and the details seem to be something to keep in mind.
Or maybe we just go with something similar to the Business Education Compex and keep it modern. It's a big decision. Hope LSU gets it right.

Lockett was the worst. Oddly shaped classrooms. No windows. Weird smells. Good riddance.

Agree, the most intense game ever played in Tiger Stadium. Hurt my vocal chords very bad yelling for the whole game. I could talk for two weeks. Same year in Tiger Stadium, Bama 3 LSU 0 in the rain. Both incredible efforts by the Tigers. Mac's last team, my last semester as a student.

I dunno about tearing Middleton down completely. The building always seemed pretty solid. Seems to me they could save money by keeping the building and completely redoing the interior. LSU always did like to spend money silly though.
