Chris Blair just said on ESPN New Orleans he expects Coleman or Hurd to start

-162 on FD and -159 on Barstool

Not that a big a move. Once Vegas gets wind if Skenes is/isn’t starting, line will move dramatically

why would Coleman fricking start?
I'm not saying I agree with the move but here would be my rationale:
Everyone is available so you can take him out early if you need to, but there is a chance he can steal some outs for you if he's on. And the lowest leverage spot to put him in as at the very beginning of the game.
Either way, the bats are going to have to do damage.

If Coleman starts I will be pregaming the shite out of this game
Posted on 6/26/23 at 1:19 pm to Allthatfades
it was -135 just 2 hours ago, but I think if Skenes isn't going to be available is where you'd see DRASTIC movement

Spot on
Florida struggles relatively to hit lefties. Coleman is completely fresh and he’ll have the shadows in his favor
It’s not ridiculous, even if I wouldn’t do it

I suppose I wouldn't be shocked to see Coleman but I would be pretty surprised if anyone other than Hurd, Skenes, Herring, and Cooper (health pending) took the mound tonight.

We’ve got everyone available besides Floyd and ack

It’ll be Hurd, skenes, herring and cooper
Say cooper cant go and skenes is on a 40 pitch count…thats 2 only two other pitchers.

Left handed...

That would mean Cooper is out and Hurd/Skenes both have limited pitches in them.
Hurd and Skenes are both pitching on short rest and definitely have limited pitches in them. Skenes will probably have a hard cap. Hurd only threw 50-something I think, so while he might not have a hard cap, he will eventually lose his effectiveness. Who knows, he may shove for 5-6 innings, but he’s not gonna be able to 8 or 9 or anything.

Especially if Cooper is available for multiple innings
I wouldn’t count on Cooper giving us multiple innings. Not only has he thrown a shite ton of innings already in a really short amount of time, but if he had a stomach bug yesterday and lost a lot of fluids, even if hers gotten multiple IVs, I just can’t imagine he’d have the strength to too long. It sucks, but if you could guarantee me right now that he can give us 1 shutdown inning, I think I’d take it.
And while Herring is better than Coleman, Coleman has started more than Herring. Herring is good out of the pen, and if we need to bring one of them out of the pen to get out of an a jam, I’d much rather it be Herring. I think Coleman’s best chance of success is starting clean innings and in the early shadows.
Like I said earlier, he’s got the experience of starting an elimination game on that mound this week, and he had that big performance against Oregon a couple years ago. It didn’t pay off his last start, but he should be able to control his emotions better today and at least have better command. And if we need him to steal a couple of innings, his best chance might be to take advantage of the shadows and Florida’s hitters being amped up early and maybe getting some chases out of the zone. But I think you’ve got to have Herring or whoever they want to go with 2nd getting warm probably in the 1st to where they can ramp up fast and are ready to come in before it gets out of hand.
The bottom line is that we’re gonna forced to take some chances with our arms today and hope that Jay presses the right buttons and guys step up. And the bats can mitigate any potential damage our guys give up. But even if all our pitchers shove, our bats are gonna have to break out. 4 runs isn’t winning this game for either team.

Man I need more than that (just being left handed)

If any LHP starts it will be Herring, you have to be able to throw strikes to start the game
Posted on 6/26/23 at 1:25 pm to TigerMonkey7
If he walks the first 2 batters Chicken will need new servers

I’ve said it before I’ll actually be somewhat surprised if Skenes throws at all but especially if it’s more than 20 or 30 pitches in a close out scenario. Having said that wouldn’t it be awesome if somehow we pull off a win without him at all?! That would be a very very gratifying and exhilarating at the same time.

Why not start herring.. he was solid.. Coleman on the other hand shite the bed
Posted on 6/26/23 at 1:32 pm to tzimme4
Only mind game I could see being played here is Jay leaked to the media that he was starting Coleman when in reality he's got other plans. But Florida will know who's in the bullpen by 430pm

I just don't see JJ throwing his best punch in the first inning. You've got so many options if you don't start him but if you you're really reducing the options and way you can win this game.
The longer that loaded gun stays on your hip the more options you have.
I agree with you and think that’s what Jay will do. It’s a risk, but it could have the higher reward. And we’re gonna have to take some risks and they’re gonna have to mostly pay off to win it. I was just playing devil’s advocate and saying there is an argument to go the other way. It’s not an easy decision. But I definitely don’t want to have Coleman come in and try to close out a close game. If he’s got to throw, I’d rather it be early.
