You would think LSU would have been rewarded for the win and Alabama penalized. After 3 weeks, however, LSU is ranked #1 and Alabama is still #2
Should not other 1 loss teams be "penalized" for losing?

Wow you alwayes hear the west coasters whinning about the BCS. The fact is that the only reason for USC, Michigan, 1-9 State(thanks to the piggies)and other yanks have such a great history is they had their little Rose Bowl to protect their champions. If we still had the Old Rose Bowl system they would be talking about all the championships that Oregon, USC and 1-9 State had won over the last 15 years. The Yanks just can't play.TCU winning the Rose Bowl are you kidding me.

The whining is awesome as long as LSU is at the top of the heap!

The article is a hack piece that just caters to the thoughts of most west coast college football fans. He never gave facts as to why the BCS caters to SEC teams. The Penn St blurb would have contributed to the article if he had led up to it to explain why they would feel the need to cover up things in order to compete with the SEC. He did none of that so it looks thrown in as a rant. He signifies Penn St as an example of how teams try to hide things in order to compete with the SEC and talks about all the scandals going on in college football but fails to include the USC scandal which really started this chain of scandals we have going on in college football. Last I checked USC is not in the SEC. He also failed to include the Oregon recruiting scandal that dominated airwaves for a part of the summer. They're not in the SEC either. He could've mentioned that LSU had violations that got them punished this year but he likely didn't have the facts to use us as an example. He also could have used the Auburn/Newton thing as an example of the culture but that didn't fit because the NCAA couldn't prove anything. He also likely left out the LSU and Auburn incidents because they are too similar to the scandals at USC and Oregon. He obviously didn't want to open up the discussion that far because Oregon and USC could easily be thrown back at him to contradict his purpose of the article. Completely biased and hurt fan that happens to be a sportswriter.
Earlier in the thread a poster asked why the PAc 12 continues to vote down a playoff if they are so against the BCS. The answer is simple, bowl tie ins and the money that comes with them. In a playoff system the Pac 12 would never get more than 2 teams in and in most years would likely get only 1. They prefer the bowl tie ins because they allow the mediocrity in the Pac 12 to still get rewarded though it's undeserved. The SEC vote for a playoff because they know that the top teams in the SEC that would be included in a playoff bracket have the depth and talent to outlast schools from other conferences on a consistent basis. Nothing would change with a playoff. The SEC would still win a majority of the national championships.

So let's see, this article was written in Miami and published on both East Coast (home of the scUM) and West Coast (home of the gheys)?

The guy is from Miami, not the west coast.

College Football is corrupt. To think otherwise is naive. Universities are greedy whores and there's too much money involved for the universities to practice integrity. Also, anyone who thinks this started with the BCS or that any conference is worse than any other is a first class rube.

Exactly. He works for the Miami Herald. Has no connection to California or the West Coast. He is a graduate of UAB.
Even after several posters pointed out he is NOT a "West-coaster", I see others ignore that and keep on referencing the West Coast angle.

These Californians sure do whine alot when things dont go their way. I still remember when we beat USC in the 97 CWS and their coach said it wasnt fair because our guys got to use the same bats that their guys use.

On Nov. 5 LSU ranked #1 played Alabama ranked #2 at Alabama and won. You would think LSU would have been rewarded for the win and Alabama penalized. After 3 weeks, however, LSU is ranked #1 and Alabama is still #2.Additionally, If both LSU and Alabama win this weekend, media say Alabama is a lock to go to New Orleans for the BCS championship game while LSU would have to play again in the SEC championship game. Alabama would be rewarded for failing to make its conference championship game. Don't you think the voters should send another one loss team to NO instead of Alabama?
Could have been Pac 12 darling Oregon but they lost. Or could have been undefeated Oklahoma state but they lost to frickin Iowa State. Next?

If Left Coasters like this guy would drop their love affair w/ the Rose Bowl, we would've had a playoff by now. So many yrs of clinging to the antiquated Big 10 champ vs PAC 8/10/12 champ slowed down the evolution from the bowls to a true playoff. Living on the Left Coast like I do, I have seen & heard some local media lamenting the lack of passion & interest among the general public. In the Monterey media market, there's more coverage of & interest in high school sports than college FB.

Meh...more USC sour grapes. Notice he doesn't mention any PAC-10...er..12 scandals or the massive cheating at USC.

I like the BCS. And a playoff would have the same results. An SEC team holding the title most years. And maybe two of them playing for it quite often.
This is true, Gump. Here's to hoping we see you in NO!
