So your take is there has not been competition for the starting job?

Brennan? NFL? Seriously?

Plenty of the genius friks here on TD said the same EXACT thing about Burrow in 2018 and pre-season 2019.
Fact is, you don't know jack shiite, don't make ANY practices so you don't have ANY special insight, and don't know what will happen.

Fact is, before injury, Brennan was improving greatly each game. Fact is, TJ has a sample size of 1. Now it was a very good sample game, and I am thrilled we have the talent. But let it play out. Acting like you have some special insight into the future makes you seem childish.

I guess I was responding to the statements by talking heads like Orlovsky was saying.

Taking a talking head like Orlovsky seriously is the problem. They are entertainers, not knowledgeable talent scouts.
Last season they had Mond rated higher than Burrow.
Brennan has the arm and accuracy to play NFL. He just needs to get healthy and have a good season.

I never said I have some special insight - just giving my opinion. You do realize this is a fan message board, not an NFL scouting site?

I honestly feel like everything is going to hinge on this game Saturday. If tj balls out again, he’s gonna be the guy going forward. If he struggles then Brennan will be back for bama. Stay tuned

Myles should grow a beard and get a hidious tattoo to erase the mama's boy look. Not saying he's not talented, He just needs the Tory Carter intimidation look to garner more respect. He still looks 17 years old.

I like how anytime a player transfers or is frustrated about playing time we make fun of them and say they are soft and don’t have the chest to compete

Except in Myles case in which we all need to make sure we are as delicate and gentle as possible to make sure we are nice enough to Myles because he stayed for years waiting his turn

I say this as someone who thinks Myles should stay the starter, but it is a bit ridiculous the completely different standards we give him vs literally any other player on the team presently or in the past.

You can't help but wonder however, if the performance by TJ will make Brennan press a little if he doesn't find an early rhythm. I've seen it happen multiple times. We really don't need this to happen. QB controversies rarely ever create immediate positive returns.

1. There isn't a QB controversy. Yet.
2. If his backup playing well makes Brennan frick up then that's on him and maybe he doesn't have what it takes.

You don’t think Brennan can play in the NFL? Ever heard of Ben Dinucci? He’s the QB for the Dallas Cowboys ever heard of them? Right now Myles Brennan has more passing yards and over twice as many TDs this season than Dinucci ever had in a single season of college football and he’s in the NFL, on a roster and possibly starting this week.
so stats are all that matter, with no context? Tremendous logic.

Since that's apparently the only standard for making it in the NFL, please tell me about Timmy Chang's illustrious NFL career, after he threw for 17,000 yards in college.

so we don't want our backup QB to play well because it might mess with the psyche of our starter?

Good lord, man.

TJ could very well be better than Myles.

Man, yall are forgetting the actual game awful quick. Dont get me wrong--Finley was awesome--but only asked him to throw longer than like 5 yards downfield maybe twice all night. It worked out because we've got awesome pass catchers and E called a great game to keep us ahead of the chains, but all in all we didn't ask TJ to make many difficult plays at all. That doesn't mean he doesn't deserve praise for his play, but we were mostly just taking what was given to us all night. With myles, we've been one of the most prolific downfield passing attacks in the SEC. TJ didn't do anything on Saturday that Myles cant do in his sleep. TJ damn well might wind up better than Myles in the future, but right now Myles is the better QB and it's not even up for debate

You could always ban bet me that someone will draft or sign him. But you won’t because you’re full of shite. You talk about context while citing HS level competition and comparing it to the SEC. And Btw Chang played in the NFL so even your examples don’t make any sense.

nope, he never made an NFL regular season roster.

Played a year in NFL Europe and a couple years in the CFL.

Yes, he has big stats so far, but that’s because we throw it a ton. Brennan looked bad against MSU, and then played two more shitty teams. And this board has him in the NFL. Unbelievable.

Danny Etling has hopped around to a couple of practice squads and there's no comparison in arm strength. If at best Brennan was a career backup, it's a job most of us would take. A three to five year career as a backup in the NFL is definitely a fast forward on your financial future.

You’re moving the goalpost now as usual. He was on 3 different NFL rosters, the Cardinals, Lions and Eagles which if you didn’t realize are NFL teams. If the standard is to take regular season snaps then say so, don’t change your criteria when it’s exposed as untrue. Players who are drafted sometimes never play a down in a real game but you never hear people claim they didn’t make it to the NFL because that would be incorrect.

seriously?!?

Making it in the NFL is making a roster. Going to camp, playing in preseason games, etc. isn't "making it in the NFL." Now, practice squad is close, but still isn't making it in the NFL.

I'd think if you asked any knowledegable football fan, they'd overwhelmingly say making a regular-season roster is the standard for saying a player made the NFL.

Fukka played 3 fukkin quarters with a torn abdominal muscle and threw for 400 yards. That makes him a tough sonofabitch physically and MENTALLY.
