Men's golf Baton Rouge Regional, LSU wins! Burns wins by a stroke and Gagne 3rd,

Off to a great start in round 1, LSU leads at -12. Sam Burns leads by 2 strokes on the individual side at -7 at the end of round 1.
Looks like everyone had a rough round 2. Not sure what conditions were like.

How does a team that scores a +58 first round make a NCAA regional. I could play for that team and I suck and have always sucked...

Burns is probably the best golfer at LSU since Toms
He can definitely win the NCAA individual title and keep the team in contention till the end.
The NCAA golf championships are so difficult especially when you get to match play and play other teams at the end, at that point, it's really up for grabs.
LSU got hot that year they won it all even though they probably weren't the best team that year.

LSU has two guys in Barbaree and Burns that were the #1 ranked junior world golfers on the roster, plus plenty of talented other guys in the lineup. These next two years will probably be the most talented golf teams LSU can ever hope to have

He probably is the most talented since Toms, but dont forget John Peterson did win an NCAA individual title. If Burns stays another year or two he will probably be the most decorated golfer in LSU history.

Years ago, we were playing golf at Pelican Point and were joined by Walter Payton's brother Eddie, who coached the golf teams at Jackson State.
They were down here for a match in the area and he and his players were playing practice rounds. I remember him being a fun, humble guy.
Also remember him being a small guy and wondered how he played in the NFL.

Eddie also got banned from playing in amatuer tournaments in MS. They used to call him Pencil Payton
