i dont mean an october top 10 team before we drop 3 straight lol, if we count those as successful years then we never would've fired Les Miles

TL;DR
If you don’t get enjoyment out of it don’t follow, don’t watch

Kelly better shape tf up this year.
Everyone calling his spoiled is insane to me.
You're literally admitting your standard for success at lsu has went down for BK.
You know what I miss? Winning openers and finishing ranked. Am I spoiled?

Thanks for the comment! I think this is the most insightful comment so far. I think its true that if it wasn't for Les's stubbornness on offense, LSU would have had more success in the 2010s. and if O didn't have such struggles in the COVID season and then seemingly just give up, then we likely wouldn't be in the situation that we are now. real momentum killers after the decade of saban and miles success, but again hopefully Kelly has learned from his early adjustment mistakes and can return us to form

who said I dont enjoy it? I love every LSU win and love following the players and the team when we lose.
Still sucks to have to lower our standards for what we consider a successful season though. i can enjoy LSU football and still express my disappointment

quote:This is insane to me to even say this.
We all want championships, but appreciate what we have. I endured the late 80s and 90s. I can remember being absolutely thrilled winning the Independence Bowl against Michigan State in 95 and Notre Dame in 97.
You appreciate not finishing ranked because 30 and 40 years ago we were terrible?
quote:No we were not, this is the boomer lsu attitude. We aren't the same program.
My advice, always push LSU to be better, but enjoy the ride along the way. It can always be much worse! The program was DANGEROUSLY close to dropping back into the abyss, just a few years ago.
LSU is a bonafide top 10 blue blood program who dominates one of the most talent rich states in the country and pays absolute top dollar.
There's a reason why we spent 100 million dollars and took Notre Dames coach.
frick being happy with not being 3-9. That's some loser bitch shite.
Kelly needs to make the playoffs this year or he's fricked. This is his best shot. Alabama is still rebuilding, Texas and Georgia are breaking in new teams and QBs, Tennessee and A&M are both trying to reload. Ole Miss is replacing a ton of talent.
At some point in time he has to stop living off of an overtime win vs Bama 3 years ago.
LSU of 1995 is not the same LSU of 2025.
Kelly is protected for at least a couple of more years because of his insane buyout but if he spits the bit again this year and we lose another opener, get drug by Bama again and miss the playoffs again- then Scott Woodward should lose his job.
I actually love Woodward and would like him to stay but if his reckless contracts cost us to be irrelevant in football then he doesn't get to make the next hire.

I get it. It’s just for some of us “disappointment” has a different meaning. How would you feel if LSU didn’t win a conference game? 0 fer.
It’s happened before.
The present? Looks pretty good.

The problem isnt LSU nor is it LSU’s on the field results
The problem is the Xbox LSU fans, who win championship after championship on Xbox and think that’s realistic. They are constantly secretly comparing LSU with bama and the run they had with saban (again, not a realistic possibility now that everyone is playing from the same deck) and think that they as LSU fans are entitled to the same shite as them
When in reality, LSU fans have more to be thankful for across all sports than 97% of fans from and particular school
We get superstar after superstar. Top coach after top coach. Perennially in the top rankings for the sports that matter… all the attention nationally that a brand can get. Etc….
But it’s not enough. As soon as something goes wrong, or an administrator or coach makes one small decision that doesn’t result in a W or a championship, then either someone or everyone needs to be fired and/or replaced. It’s absolutely insane for people to be this way
The problem isn’t LSU. It’s the fans…. LSU is one of the best. People need to appreciate what they have
ETA: Don’t believe me? Go be a fan of a team like Mississippi State or Boston College or Nebraska or any school that’s completely mediocre like that for 3 years. See how much you have to be thankful for over here with LSU. A little perspective would be beneficial for some of our loudest fans

This really is an aspect that needs to be emphasized. The schedule is really difficult, but when you look at each team there are weaknesses that set up well for LSU. Unfortunately, the most complete team at the start of the season that we face, is the team we face at the start of the season.
Clemson is not a make or break game, but leaving with a W will take the monkey off Kelly's back and be a springboard for the season.

It's happened before, in 1983. 42 years ago. I'm not gonna compare the program today to where it was during the Cold War and then say "oh well at least this year we won a couple!". I'm gonna measure the direction of the program by comparing it to where it was around 5-10 years ago. and that comparison feels a bit like we're stuck a rung below where we used to be, the LSU I grew up on

Look I'm not a negatiger. I guess it just didn't dawn on me before the struggles we've had this past decade and I'm out here feeling nostalgic. I just don't want to become one of those schools that merely accepts mediocrity as the new norm and expectation :/
LSU just committed more financial support to NIL than almost every other school in the country and by far their most heavy investment to date. I don't think accepting mediocrity is going to be an issue.

This is the best talent Kelly has had since he's been here and I don't think that's even remotely debatable.
Now why the defensive talent has been so bad, many reasons but he's the head coach - buck stops there.
So now that he has assembled talent with a defense more in line with what LSU should have always.....let's see what he can do.

I'm sorry you guys had to experience losing 30 years ago but stop pretending that this is the same program? Why don't we do this for baseball or basketball?
How good was the baseball team before skip got here? Is the standard now that he's gone to go back to mediocrity and just be happy?
Honestly some of yalls responses is so incredibly discouraging, this is why that generation allowed Louisiana to deteriorate so much. Loser "be happy with what you have" attitude
How about frick that? How about we should absolutely be a perennial top 10 team? How about not getting beat by a shitty west coast team to start the season or dog walked by a 5-7 A&M team when you have Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas on your team?
How about finishing ranked above ULL in football? Is that ok to wish for even though we were bad 37 years ago?

shoot, i dont even need to go back to Saban levels of success, I'll take even early Les Miles or early Coach O. Im not saying we need to win the natty each year or even to finish top 5 but man its a punch in the gut to finish unranked after back-to-back seasons of good, but not great. I'm confused by all these fans coming out basically saying "you're just a wimp, you need to learn how to appreciate never being in the conversation".

As soon as coaches, learn, you have to have a great defensive line, a decent offensive line a quarterback that can throw and run with two average receivers but one with speed.
