were you saying this before this weekend?

no staff is average if it has the best pitcher in college on the staff. we also have a returning weekend starter from last year. oh, and we also have the best closer in college baseball. average my arse.

Isn't that my point? Shouldn't PM have thought of that before August and he was left holding the bag? And having Bourgois as our #2 starter compounds my point- Bourgois is a middle reliever at best right now, and being our #2 just shows you how average the staff really is.

And Watkins is doing well right now, but its a looong season. See Tyler Hannover last year.

That might be the dumbest statement I have seen on the Rant since Football Season.

dude, Austin Ross is legitimate SEC weekend starter.

Skip Bertman didn't have a whole bunch of teams that had dominating pitchers on Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday. Actually, Sundays were usually an adventure.

Know, just stop watching and leave the fan stuff to the rest of us. Not sure what you expect. We win the series if Antknee is pitching and that's that. Stop crying.

I agree. We have a good enough staff to where there should be no excuse to get swept by anybody. I think a bigger concern is who is going to contribute hitting this year besides Dean and a couple of others. They have got to get the bats going and do a better job of having quality at-bats. Timely hitting is what we need and I saw a lot of timid at-bats, some with runners in scoring position this weekend.

Mainieri DIDN'T KNOW BEFORE AUGUST!!! You act like ZVR was setting LSU up the entire summer, but he wasn't. Mainieri went out and got two full time starters in the middle of August.

Your point is invalid, and you spelled Ranaudo's name wrong.

Edit: you also spelled Bourgeios name wrong too...

I believe the Pirates made him an offer he couldn't refuse. His draft slot did not warrant that type of money, but anybody given that bonus has to take it. ZVR had to take that offer.

+1

He damn near got the same money that JM got as a first rounder.

I agree with the premise of your post but let's not say Bourgeois 'dominated' at LSUE. His ERA at LSUE was above 5 after all.

The entire staff, save for Renaudo and Ott. I love PM, but he put his eggs in the ZVR basket and had no real backup plan. Nor have we seen any real improvement from Bradshaw, Bertuccini, or Ross. PM is great, but the lack of great pitching is rediculous for a program like ours.

We don't lack quality arms, Bourgois and Matulis are both very projectible, problem is that both are sophomores and still trying to figure it out. Plenty of 19/20 year olds in the minors with great arms are still in the Gulf Coast/Arizon Leagues.

I agree that we aren't very deep at pitcher, the draft hasn't helped, but I think they have recruited the hell out of the position players. I don't think its a recruiting issue.

The von Rosenberg and Colvin thing I can't blame on Maineri.. No one expected them to pull late 1st round, and mid 2nd round money (respectivley) when they were juniors... especially Colvin, he just came on really strong as a senior. Hell Heathcott got over $2 million!!

I kinda think Ross pitched his tail off this weekend. The only pitcher I was disappointed in is Bradshaw. He faced two batters...1 sac bunted. The other, a .154 hitter, singled. Ouch.

Other than that, the staff was short-handed due to the injuries to Ranaudo and Matulis. Don't kid yourself even with only Matulis available...the results would have been much better.

How about you don't post anything else about this baseball team for the rest of the season? You obviously don't know WTF you are talking about, as others in this thread have pointed out.

We have as much or more pitching depth than anyone in college baseball.

No real improvement from Bradshaw, Bertuccini, or Ross? Are you serious? Ross pitched a hell of a game on Saturday. Bradshaw and Bertuccini have come through for us countless times.

No real backup plan for Von Rosenburg? Um yeah, their names are Joey Bourgeois and Mitch Mormann. They will be very good pitchers by May. They are still adjusting to quality competition.

Coach Mainieri has proven that he knows exactly what he is doing....everything is geared towards peaking in May/June.

seriously college baseball is an offensive game for a reason all the best high school arms get drafted each year and pro clubs overpay often because of the lack of pitching basically everywhere. then u also have many of the top arms that dont get the money they want go juco so they have the oppurtunity to enter the draft the following year. all that said you can almost always bitch about pitching on every college baseball team
