I thought his bread and butter pitch was his breaking ball? That’s what I see him throw 90% of the time. His fastball has never been anything special.

One of the more overrated players in recent memory. Boosted solely off of 1 inning in 2023.

This is just a dumb thing to say. Guidry entered the game with something like a 7-run lead. If you identify his career b/c of closing out the natty in 2023, then you must be a casual. As a freshman, he had a solid year in 2023. He improved the following year and was one of the most reliable arms on the team. He had a 2.59 ERA, and opponents batted .165 against him. He's absolutely struggling this year, but that's largely because Jay is extending him longer than usual. Except last week, Guidry is usually his best, getting 3-6 outs. His numbers are heavily inflated this year b/c of this.

He can throw one hell of a 12-6 curve but he just has trouble on the placement most of the time.

Not sure why Jay stays with him when he is obviously losing it. He pulls other pitchers quicker than he does Guidry.

No, he is an adequate relief pitcher. He’s not a guy who can face a lineup multiple times in my opinion, but he’s good enough to pitch at this level.

Jay Johnson cost us the Oklahoma game and Ole Miss game by leaving him in. Everyone else gets pulled

Really, what options do we have out of the pen that we can trust besides Cowan and Shearin?

He’s a shortstop who they tried to make into a pitcher. Never really had elite control always relied on a fastball tried to have him do something he wasn’t capable of that’s baseball.

Can we play him at 2nd?

As I’ve said previously, Guidry’s pitching career is best suited as the third starter on a Sunbelt or Southland Conference team.

I don’t believe he was even recruited as a pitcher.. more of a utility infield IIRC?

It was probably a good thing he was unavailable all of last year. He would have screwed us at some point
