If you haven't paid attention to the basketball team yet, you need to start. This team is going to be a serious threat. Great coaching + experienced team + talent = a deep tournament run.

Can't wait to be 8-0 in the SEC portion of the schedule only for the idiots to come calling for Wade's job when we lose our first SEC game.

Rinse repeat for every loss.

I believe it’s only 10 days or so. He is eligible as soon as spring semester is done.

On defense? Probably. Though just playing better all-around should be enough. They get killed because they don't stop the drive at the perimeter. Not because teams generally beat them up inside (Though the big kid from Tech did last night)

On offense? No. They are FINE. In fact, they are more than fine. This is one of the most efficient offenses in college basketball. Very few teams have 4 or 5 guys who are night in and night out capable to putting up 20 points. LSU does. If anything, a "inside presence" would probably clog up the lane

Was great to see Manning back out on floor last night. Once he's healthy that's a 20-25 minute a game guy right there.

LeBlanc will also start to play next week probably since semester ends this week and grades are posted early next week IIRC. That's another 20+ type minute a game guy.

This team is ridiculously deep. Wade will not be shy to put 11-12 guys out there in a game.

On defense, sure. Offensively, we’ll be fine.

on one hand, having a lot of new eyeballs on the team rises their profile. Unfortunately in this site those eyeballs are attached to idiots, sooo enjoy the game threads while you can.

3 point defense and rebounding will be an issue against good teams. Days and Watford at the 4 and 5 ain’t gonna do it.

I was hoping Penn Johnson would come and start right away. Also Oneal seems like more of a mobile 4 than a true 5.

LeBlanc is a rebounding machine and also a pretty good rim protector for a guy 6'7 because of freakishly long arms. Look at his georgetown days : LeBlanc at Georgertown

He grabbed 2.5 offensive boards a game as a freshman at Georgetown and blocked over a shot a game in about 24 minutes per contest. He was also well over 60% from 2 point range. His assist to turnover ratio was basically 1:1 too which is good for a freshman big.

Penn Johnson was never going to be a big time starter here. He could barely get on the court for 2 years at Washington. Him and Gray simply serve a purpose of having some 7 footers on the roster when we may need to go that way in playing someone else for matchups at times, but they arent 20+ minute a game guys. They are both more like 5-10 minute a game guys. They can provide a quick counter and make the other team adjust but they arent going to be out there for extended time each half in more tightly contested games. Moussa Cisse would have been more that permanent center and complete Wade's new defense but he flipped on us last minute to go to Memphis instead.

O'Neal was never a center, he was a stretch 4 in high school and is in college as well. He can pack on a solid 20-25 pounds still really. A bit light in britches....Wade compared him to Aaron Epps which is a solid comp. O'Neal's best days are still ahead of him, he is just coming back form not playing much basketball the last 2 years.

Three point defense? Yes. Rebounding I'm not worried about. Days is currently 3rd in the SEC in RPG. Watford is T-11. Those two made up a big chunk of the frontcourt last season and LSU was 22nd overall in total rebound %. Leblanc was 4th in the Big East in total rebound % in his only full season at Georgetown. Now, LSU might not be quite as good a rebounding team as they were last year (and the year before) because they are trying to play more zone on defense (harder to rebound out of a zone). But I expect them to be fine vs. good and bad teams. They focus on it a ton and history says they are generally a good rebounding team.

That's because people's expectations of Penn-Johnson were WAY overblown simply because he was a 7 footer. He was a non-factor at Washington and a really just a last second pickup once the Cisse recruitment fell through. There will likely be some matchups where his presence is more significant than others. But you can't be disappointed in the kid because YOUR expectations of him were too high. Same for O'Neal. He has never been a "true 5" (ala his father). He has good size and athleticism, and will contribute. But he has never been looked at as a guy you simply stick on the block and let him play with his back to the basket.

we are good, everyone knew we would be, but we've shown some big flaws thus far, but i trust we will get better.

I can accept the 2 games in St. Louis as rust, but we can't play like that in the SEC and expect to win 12+ games.

Anxious to see what we look like when we play VCU, and we'll know more after the first few games in the SEC, but yes, i without a doubt think we could and should win the SEC.

Kentucky is 1-3, losing to Richmond, close one to Kansas, and GA Tech. Ga Tech was 0-2 with losses to GA State and Mercer. The got their asses whipped by Richmond and Tech as well, not like its was close games.
