McMahon is going to have to run another roster reset...

...in the off-season.
Maybe not all 13 guys. He has four or five he should keep.
But he's going to need at least a half dozen kids from the transfer portal in the off-season. And he needs to be thinking he's going to pick up at least three or four starters, too.
This is a terrible team. That Florida club that just came in here and whipped our arse is straight garbage. We won't win another game this month if this is all we've got.

Very little to be optimistic about.
I wasn't expecting much and they are way worse than I thought.
Couldn't believe we beat Ark, well the team couldn't either because we have sucked since.
Real clear. If G play don't drastically improve this team will get worse.

I have been wanting Ward to get some minutes . I think Phillips and Reed should play till they foul out as well. Not having Hayes’s hurt us tonight

Which is why he's going to have to kill it in the portal.
He's got to find his top three scorers for next year in the portal.
All he's got that's worth keeping next year is Hayes, Fountain and the freshmen - maybe. He can't get Miller out of here fast enough, and Justice Williams and Kendall Coleman aren't SEC players.
Of course, Jalen Reed might be the worst player on the team, so I can't really get excited about keeping him either.
So he's got his two high school signees and maybe 4-5 returning guys worth keeping, and at most you'll get a couple of starters out of that group, so whatever competitive talent you'll have is going to have to come from the portal.
He has to play Ward 25 minutes a game at this point even if he sucks. Phillips needs 15 minutes a game too. You've got to see if there is any upside to those kids this year, because if there isn't you need to know now so you can run them off too.
And the problem is that if next year's team sucks as well you start to become irrelevant and the recruits won't come. Then it's just a matter of time before you'll have to start over with a new coach.
I think McMahon is pretty good. But this is a very substandard team. You can't develop this group into a winner. Only a reset will fix this problem.

Why we keep saying portal? What about his recruiting? You don't hear much on that front which is very concerning

He can't recruit though. He can't even get good transfers unless they're from the team he just left. There is no help coming. This program is dead.

Because very few of the top high school players are left unsigned, and last I checked we're not really in on any of them.
Any legit difference-makers we could get will have to come from the portal.

KJ has been very good, and Hannibal has recently played well, but Hill has been terrible. 2 of our best players are Fountain and Hayes, which he recruited from the portal. Ward looks like he has potential, but for some reason isn't playing. CMM rotations are a head scratcher.

It's concerning that so many of the kids he brought in who were supposed to be quality ballers - Miller, Hill, Reed, Ward - have been utterly putrid.
That's worrisome. It speaks to player development and talent evaluation.

Get Jalen Cook back here. I criticized tPear for not finding him a role. Only guy on that team aside from a fellow freshman Mwani who was willing to guard someone.

It’s hard for me to watch. I saw this coming with Hill and Williams. Cam was the wildcard for me . I was hoping he could be the lead guard. Miller’s first bucket tonight is who he was before his injury. He’s a shell of himself right now. CMM took this job knowing it wasn’t his best Short Term option. He’s took this job because he knows what can be accomplished Long Term. He’s is getting lots of pushback from recruits on the sanctions. That shoe needs to fall quickly. This is a damn good staff and they can get it done but it may be year 3 before we can get in to top 1/3 of the conference

Red, my concern is that if you're a bottom feeder two years in a row, the stink sets in and people just look at you as a loser.
So if we take it on the chin all year, which we will, you got to next season and it's almost an existential thing.
I'm watching Julian Phillips for Tennessee and it's heartbreaking. We don't have anybody like him coming in. It just looks bleak.

Not sure Hill's problem. He was a good player last year and looks unplayable this year.
Williams just looks like a bad shooter and avg at best player.
Hayes has been a surprise and we sorely missed him.
Miller has just been bad of late, weather it's pressing or effects from knee injury.
Hannibal can't shoot and makes too many bad decisions, but does rebound well.
That's our Guards. If they don't play better, this will fall off the tracks.
