What record do we have to have just to make a regional as a 4 seed?
Posted on 4/28/24 at 11:11 pm to Tigerbait8
4 seeds are the conference tournament winners. Leaves 3 seed being the lowest seed you can really get without winning a conference tournament.
To answer your question: 13 wins will get us a 3 seed somewhere.

How did you get this math? Just curious

Quit talking about 14 wins-- won't happen.
Accentuate the positive-- what could happen-- LSU does well enough to make the SEC tourney, and then goes on a tear and wins that. It's happened before

But that’s a big maybe bc of Holman and his teammates knowing him in general.
I think he’s going in dry against his former degenerate gambling poverty program.
Go 4-2 against OM/Bama and take 1 from aTm.

Typically the 4 seeds are conference champions that typically wouldn’t be considered a top 64 team.
If you were to look at 2023 for instance, the 4 seeds were George Mason, Nicholls, Maine, San Jose St, Tulane, Ball St, Penn, Lipscomb, Central Conn St, Rider, Florida A&M, Army, Eastern Illinois, ORU, Wright St, and Santa Clara.
It isn’t unheard of for a major conference team to make it as a 4, but it’s very rare. I believe ole miss made it as a 4
Edit: ole miss was a 3 in 22’

I'll be pleased if we get 1 from A&M.

That gets you to 12-18 in the SEC. That ain’t gonna cut it to make a regional. They’d have to win the SEC tourney in Hoover in that scenario.

The precedent has been set in recent years for teams to get in with 13 conference wins. Even without any conference tournament wins. They even took bama a few years ago with 12.
Personally I think we would need 2 wins vs each remaining opponent to make it. Just because we haven’t won a series vs a quality team. We likely would need a few other teams to hit some losing streaks like Alabama and Florida.
Realistically it appears more like 4-5 the rest of the way. Ole miss is pretty bad as well and I would assume we take 2 at home, Alabama hasn’t been good of late, on paper I would say they are slightly better than us but since they are the home team I would assume we only get 1. And A&M is one of the best teams in the country, but since it’s at home I’ll say we take 1.

It’s over. So quickly . Better focus on our country , it’s worth it

If LSU closes season out with 5 straight SEC series wins , they are getting in, even if they don’t sweep any of them.
But that would be damn near a miracle to win the next 3 series against 3 teams that are obviously playing better baseball than LSU.

So 12-18. That’s not enough

College baseball today is different. They didn’t care about ratings back then. Ratings is everything now. LSU the Brand is bigger than ever. If we’re on the bubble and have 12 wins and win a game in sec tournament I think we’re definitely in. We had so Oline scensrio in PM last year and the committee said it wasn’t really close and I remember sweating that selection out.
Plus defending national champs helps. (Miss state and Ole Miss weren’t even close to making SEC tournament much less NCAA tourney

The point still stands, but ole miss isn’t playing better baseball.

The team will be watching from the couch. They are just not that good, fact.

It is accurate to say it's mathematically possible, but it's not as impossible as some of you guys are making it.
With the strong remaining SEC schedule, LSU can go 5-4 and reach a low 30s RPI ranking. That 12-18 record will be good enough if they win only one game in SEC tournament, which again will be against a strong opponent. Of course we can't blow a mid week game in the process. The 13 wins in SEC play will do it.
You have to remember that the SEC this year is dominant, even moreso in years past. LSU has solid non conference wins against Xavier, Louisiana and Texas as well
