Dixon 238-77 .756
Floyd 367-208 .638
Bennett 122-74 .622
Drew 168-129 .566
Jones 205-162 .559
No matter how you do it, you have to win!

You can't look at records without context.

I know but if you win, you get better jobs at better programs. Then you get better players which helps you win some more.
I do agree that Dixon had an advantage starting at an established program and staying there.

Actually I take the opposite stance. He was at the most competitive basketball conference in the country where the scrutiny is extremely high. At North Texas, a team that has no history and no significant expectations in a crappy conference, Jones did very well to take them from that place but it's far easier to compile that sort of a record at a mid major than in the Big East.

He took over a good team but it wasn't a longstanding foundation. Howland was only there 4 years and was only good those last two.

Since my first wife went to Pitt for a few years and I actually attended a double header in the Civic center (removable dome stadium), I was somewhat aware of the situation before Dixon. The best local players were being taken by teams far from Pittsburgh.
There is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh called "THE HILL", complete with excellent black basketball players. Dixon got some of them to stay home.

I actually agree with that about Jones and UNT. The difference between the top programs and the bottom ones is generally greater in mid-majors and lower levels than it is in the major conferences. Once you get to the top in smaller conferences it is easier to stay there IMO.
That is why I really like Dixon. He has been a consistent winner in one of the best conferences in the nation for a long time (I think this season was an anomaly). However, I believe it would be difficult to get him here.

Well yeah, we all would love to have him. But realistically, he will never come here so how his name was circulated, regardless of the connection, is a bit dumbfounding. These pay sites throwing out names like that and I'm left wondering what people are paying for.

Yeah. I don't pay for any of that stuff. The powers that be are going to make their choice and we have to live with it.
It's fun to dream a bit though.

@NDKendrick_RR: Hearing Johnny Jones of North Texas or Reggie Theus are in great shape to take over head job at LSU.
