, the best coach in college baseball history and a time when parity didn't exist whatsoever.

I mentioned this in another thread this morning, but Paul Mainieri and Les Miles get shite on because they basically followed the best baseball and football coach in the history of both sports at the collegiate level. I usually disagree with the "LSU fans are spoiled" thing, but I'm starting to come around to that idea. Neither of those two guys are coming back to the dugout/sideline, so I'd suggest moving on.

He's gotta put the team in Omaha next year or we gotta go find us a young up and coming coach.

What is it about this board and young and up coming coaches, LOL?
We lost, we lost to a better team than we are. We had a great run, in large do to CPM's coaching. It ended.
If we don't have a mass exodus we should be much better next year.
Plus it's almost time for most of you to start bitching about our football coach.

College baseball was very different in the 90s to what it is now. Skip was a fantastic coach but I don't believe he would have won 5 championships if this current format was used in the 90s along with the bats currently being used. I, for one, never expected this team to host a regional or super regional this year. I thought it was a rebuilding year at best. To garner a top 8 national seed and get this far was a top effort from the coaching staff and players. It is disappointing to lose 2 games back to back at home and not make it Omaha. I will take a loss in super regional to a Coastal Carolina team over a Tulane team where Skip lost in his last season after LSU won the first game in that SR.

dude, these babes don't know anything about LSU baseball history, I was on the team just prior to the Skip era, the players outnumbered the fans in the stands, the only people in the stands were family, girlfriends, and a few friends that didn't have a party that conflicted with game time, the field was groomed and prepped by the players, we had a good coach, even won an SEC championship, but baseball at LSU was pretty far down the totem pole at the time

They said on the broadcast that the last time a non-conference team swept a super regional on the road was Limburger [sic] lol

Skip was a winner and it would not have mattered whether he needed gorilla ball or small ball to get the championship. He always made the right decisions with hitting and pitching.

Example: with Skip there is no way in hell Romero doesn't come to the plate with the bases juiced in the 9th

The only reason he is termed a winner is bc of his 5 NC wins. Manieri has a NC ring too but many want to blow that off like he was lucky to get it. That was a best of 3 series win. Skip made errors in coaching just like every coach has. Skip made correct calls just like every coach has. Manieri had a young team this year. His coaching was great and I'm excited to see what this team can do for next year.

My point before if you had read was that I don't believe Skip would have won 5 NC if the current format for college baseball would have been implemented during Skip coaching tenure.

Exactly. Manieri is doing the best coaching job he can do. I remember all the NC wins and know that if not for the bats being used LSU would not have won 5 under Skip. There was a lot of luck involved. They absolutely sucked in the first half of game against Miami. Alabama was without their top hitter in the 97 game. It feels with some of this fan base, Manieri will never be accepted. We can always go back to having Smoke be the coach. Skip hand picked him to be his replacement after all. Wait I forgot Skip never made a mistake.

100% agree, I used to cringe/applaud at some of the swings that looked like they would be infield fly rules that went sailing over the walls, Todd Walkers' grand slam in the CWS looked that way to me, fun times, and everyone else had the same cards to play with

Bull. shite.

Skip would have pinch ran for Romero just like PM did in the 8th inning. As a result, Skip would have been bound by the same lineup rules that prevents Romero from re-entering. The Romero situation in the 9th inning helps separate who has a clue about baseball and who doesn't.

What are you trying to argue? Using a pinch runner for Romero in the 8th is a pretty standard call there. He cannot re-enter and hit again in the 9th.

Such a stupid suggestion, we gotta fund us an up and coming coach. Who is we? Are you going to go out and hire the guy? Quit saying 'we' you weren't part of this team. You never made the sacrifices. Manieri got a helluva a lot out if this team this year. I am glad LSu doesn't have people like you running things because, they would definitely lose.

Because Romero had been tearing the cover off the ball lately?
