I never understood why South Carolina hired him. They've won CWS titles and have a good program. They didn't know that Mainieri got burned out at LSU?
They saw an available coach with a NC ring and hardware.
We all knew he had gone ROAD 4 years before the end of his tenure here. They didn’t.

Come on back home Paul, be the guest of honor in Alex Box for the South Carolina series and enjoy retirement finally knowing that college sports has just passed you by with NIL and the portal. There is nothing wrong with that.

His name popped up for the Notre Dame job a couple of years ago after Link Jarrett left for FSU. At the time he publicly denied interest in returning to coaching, but when his name popped up again for USCe, one can assume he was putting his name out there

He’s close with Ray Tanner, and I think Tanner let his emotions get in the way and hired Mainieri for the coach he was from 2002-2017 and not the coach he was in 2025.
Tanner proved he was terrible at hiring coaches, especially baseball coaches.

Was kinda looking forward to him returning to coach at the box

Coach Paul is a class act and great person. I hope he enjoys retirement and his family. Thanks Coach!

There were rumors he was continuing to use his access to the LSU program for his own personal gain after he had verbally accepted the USCe job but before it was made public.
Our recruiting coordinator Terry Rooney was named Mainieri’s pitching coach and Jay sounded like he wasn’t very pleased with the way it went down.

Only reason I can think he took that job is because he needs money. He wanted nothing to do with the job when he parted with lsu. No way he just up and wanted to run a program again
Jezz how could he need money. Gambler our something?

Sure he will make Monday’s lunch special at Mike Andersons

I hope I speak for the rest of the fanbase when I say...your seat in the box is still waiting for you Paul.

University of Southern California-Eunice?

He recently mentioned never being fired.
If so, he’s a two time quitter.

Well, let’s certainly let “rumors” besmirch a fine person.

Do you have an explanation why he was courting a coach for his staff while that coach was employed at LSU?

No Clue. Don’t care. Not illegal. All’s fair in hiring. Big boy business.

Ok, well your boy Paul failed mightily at South Carolina and ruined his legacy.
Keep sucking his man part though.

Just what I thought, baseless claims that can’t be substantiated so you resort to name calling and attacking someone’s job performance at another location. You obviously have a phallus on the mind though. He left LSU in 2021 and started USC in 2024. Not sure he still owed much to LSU. Stroke your scraggle beard and take a lap, or are you going to continue with the immature banter someone who hasn’t accomplished much in life if prone to do?
I respect all the Coaches who change kids futures and provide a great experience wherever they coach. Paul, and Skip, and Jay and many others have done just that.
Just a little of what Paul did for LSU, including a National Title, same as Jay has done.
Mainieri retired after the 2021 season at LSU with the 2009 national championship, the 2017 runner-up finish and five trips to the College World Series (2008, ’09, ’13, ’15 and ’17). Under Mainieri, LSU was consistently a fixture at or near the top of the SEC, and the nation, year-in and year-out.
There were six straight top-eight national seeds from 2012-17 and nine overall under Mainieri. He took LSU to nine Super Regionals, including that last season in ’21 when Mainieri delivered one of his better coaching jobs. The team finished 13-17 in the SEC before rallying to get within two wins of Omaha.
LSU won four SEC regular season titles (2009, ’12, ’15, ’17) and six SEC Tournament crowns (2008, ’09, ’10, ’13, ’14 and ’17) under Mainieri.

I’m sorry I struck a nerve, Paul.

Is the ending really a surprise to anyone?
