Milazzo looks so much more comfortable receiving balls than Garza. DH could help keep Garza health too

You made a pretty good point about Garza turning his glove over. It doesn't really resonate until you see someone like Milazzo catch.

You aren't totally wrong by saying that, but with more reps Milazzo will just become more comfortable catching. He's better than Garza defensively, without a doubt. His bat being good has been a nice bonus, but I don't think his offense was ever bad. It's just that people were talking so much about his defense that his bat got overlooked.

Milazzo batted around 400 in high school against some of the best pitching talents in the state. Glad is being given more of an opportunity, he's a leader.

Yes, the only reason for one thread on baseball is, it's the start of LSU spring football practice.

Our best lineup definitely has Milazzo at C and Garza at DH. How else it shapes out remains to be seen.

not that it matters but here are some thoughts
Milazzo def is the catcher we will go to bc of his defense. garza should stay in as DH.
to keep Doughty confidence up at offense maybe trying him in outfield.
IMO Bianco is not earning a start
If he PM is tinkering where is Cranford? Willis?

It will settle on that I'm sure. Instead of seeing Milazzo spell Garza, it will be Garza spelling Milazzo. Garza turned down big money, supposedly, to return to LSU. Mainieri will give him a chance to keep proving himself as a catcher, in my opinion. However, Milazzo will solidify himself as the catcher in nut check time.

Why? He's an infielder, with his future as an infielder. What is he doing, or better yet, what is anybody else doing to remove Doughty from the infield?

Cranford has played some. My guess is that he is not ready. Willis is a ghost for some reason. He's not even mentioned, or playing in garbage time. There is a reason for it, but I'm not sure anybody knows what that reason is.

He struck out consistently throughout spring practice, probably the reason

Literally ever other player has logged time though. In cases like Cranford, and Doughty, it has come with big leads. But no Willis. It's weird.

Do we know for a fact that Willis is not still having issues with his throwing shoulder?

The last time I saw him during an early spring practice he was in left field catching fly balls and he would throw the ball underhanded back towards the infield.

I don't know anything about it. Wonder why nobody ask? Or why Mainieri doesn't come out and say it.

Reporters, especially the beat writers should ask.

But coaches are more and more secretive about player injuries because of privacy issues.

Looking back at Scuba's scrimmage notes Willis played 1st base a couple of scrimmages, 3rd base 1 scrimmage and he DH'd all of the other scrimmages.

We know he's not going to replace Beloso at first or Garza/Milazzo at DH and Mathis seems to have 3rd base locked down.

For the 10 scrimmages Willis went 1 for 18 (.056)

So maybe the answer is he's not ready for prime time...

Yes, that may be it too.

But generally speaking all of the kids that aren’t injured usually get an AB or three in the first week.

I think your point about the shoulder injury and also the lack of production have combined to keep Willis on the bench.

I thought with LSU’s depth at pitching that midweek games would be no challenge.
