Having your jersey retired is more than athletics. Its also about how he carries himself and being a role model for all citizens of this state and country.
He fails in that regard.just a politically correct decision by the committee which caved under pressure.

Pressure from whom?
For years any time this topic has come up, a huge portion of LSU fans lose their shite over the possible that the guy could have his number retired. Who exactly was clamoring for this to happen now?
Frankly, it's about time...but let's not start pretending there was some growing drum beat for LSU to hang his jersey and they caved to some PC barrage.

I mean, he was a good punter and a good infielder, but this seems excessive.

He fails in that regard.
I'd be willing to bet he's a much better human being than you will ever be.

Rauf broached the notion that the 9/11 attacks might have been part of a U.S. government conspiracy. He repeatedly brought up The Project for the New American Century, an ultra-conservative Washington, D.C.-based think tank established in 1997 to address U.S. foreign policy. Many of its members would later serve in the Bush Administration, and Abdul-Rauf cited its policy papers that called for regime change in Iraq and a bolstering of the American military; he pointed to a particular passage that said "the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event -- like a new Pearl Harbor."
Well, he’s right

Single handily filled the pmac as a freshman, once he torched latech for 48, every game was practically a sellout.

But, a question related to that: how does UCLA refer to their superstar center, in the record books and such? Lew Alcinder (as he was on campus), or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (as he became later)?
I'd think you list as they were at the time they were playing.
