appears he's just packing it up. my guess is he's getting passed up.
better to quit now than in a game.

It's weak to quit on your team, even if you aren't getting playing time. It's a soft mindset.
So aren't you glad the process weeded out the soft minded? If he's that emotionally immature and lacks that relentless never give up trait, next man up, right?

& don’t be surprised if some of these young OLineman get in their feels as well come December. You think Echols will want to stick around knowing he will play behind Chester for the next 3 years?

For those just thinking this is about depth chart, we only have 3 scholarship TEs now with 1 being a true freshman and Markway was always going to play a bunch as a blocking TE at the very least even with Pimpton and Green. Pimpton and Green arent exactly the blocking TE types.
Also makes zero sense to just quit the team even if he is going to transfer, its not like he can transfer anywhere right now, he has to wait till after the season is over. Something else gotta be going on here.
He could go the JUCO route, right? All he has to do is enroll at same, there is no "transfer" or "transfer portal" to JUCO.

Taylor is the only other capable in-line TE.
And he gets banged up a good bit. There is nothing good about this, especially in the run game. Him and Green don’t even really play the same position. I would t be surprised if Green lines up more out wide or in the slot like a WR than he does in-line.
This hurts depth-wise mostly, but it’s also gonna limit our ability to be versatile with the TE, especially if Taylor gets nicked.
We’ll probably have to start reppin’ some young, athletic tackles to be able to come in on short-yardage/goal line/jumbo packages as TE eligible. Oh well.

If you looked at those 1 on 1s yesterday, you'd see that he was the only one that didn't look like an actual pass catching presence at TE. Taylor looked like a vet, Green has looked like a monster mossing people, and Pimp showed improved mobility and his body control is sick (that falling catch was great). Mac was the only TE that didn't look good.

It's better he do it now to not waste reps for the other TEs who want to play. It's also better he do it now than to play 4 games and then ask that they redshirt him. He's not a bad prospect, it's just that he has the best trio of TEs in the country ahead of him, and yes that includes UGA's squad.
I know this sounds wrong, but im glad he's gone now to get the other guys prepared. In the NFL and me personally, I'd rather have a receiving TE that can block than a blocking TE that can receive.

This isn't baseball, there is very little to gain for him by going JUCO.

Portal?
Is it even open right now? If so let's grab another DL

You can transfer before school starts just not SEC

This is what I don't get. He would have been on the field a ton this year.
I suspect he was being the ”blocking TE” and with the other three TEs he probably was not going to see many targets this year.
He is from St Louis so he could be in line for a number of schools. In the back of my mind I would suspect ND is in play.

Getting to play this season, instead of sitting out the year.

There will be 4 starting spots up for grabs on the OL next year, including 2 IOL spots. If a player cannot see the opportunity............
Echols is not locked into the C position only, there will be plenty of opportunity for him at LSU over the next couple of years.

Have never understood this move, so you got passed up, big whoop.
Practice, get better, stand on the sideline, transfer when the season is over.
It's weak to quit on your team, even if you aren't getting playing time. It's a soft mindset.
ETA this is assuming he doesn't have some injury he needs surgery for or something
You don't know why he decided to leave. It could be one, or a combination of many reasons beyond football. So I choose not to throw stones. He played in all 12 games last season. Not just garbage time, but significant snaps considering Taylor dealt with injury all season. So it's difficult to think he was completely passed by one or more of the other guys. It's not like the other two TEs besides him have a lot of proven production to rely upon. Pimpton played far less snaps last season and Green is a true freshman who is still relatively new to football. Given LSU hasn't even been practicing for a week I doubt those two have separated themselves so much that it was unequivocal Markway was at the bottom of the depth chart.
That said, it is a bit unusual to see a guy go through an entire offseason of work, a week of fall camp, then suddenly quit. But it does kind of lend credence to the narrative that a lot of guys from the Midwest generally don't last at LSU. In last year's class LSU signed three players from what most would consider "midwest" states: Markway (Missouri), Howard (Minnesota), McGohan (Ohio)...all are no longer on the roster.
That's not to say LSU should completely ignore midwestern players. One of the best ever was from Ohio and they currently have the No. 1 player in the nation from Michigan committed. But LSU is always going to be built largely with guys from 4-5 states: Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Georgia, sprinkled in with a few from Mississippi and/or Alabama. I think Kelly is fully recognizing that with his new defensive hires (almost all of whom have significant Louisiana/LSU ties).
The lesson is if it gets to the point where all things are mostly equal, you give the benefit of the doubt to the player from Louisiana, or Texas, or Florida. They are more likely to succeed at LSU.

Damn we are deep if he’s leaving. Knew we couldn’t keep them all
