If Tyler Ross (FL) makes it to LSU in the fall LSU won't have anything to worry about.

Losing Luquette is huge due to the fact that he was going to be LSU's next true catcher, but Dozar and Didier have spent time at C and adding Ross, one of LSU's top signees, he could even see playing time as a freshman.

His mother is a McIlhenny, as in Tabasco. He never liked school. Good kid, just very confused right now. He is spoiled, got every thing he ever wanted. He needs to grow up.

If this is true, Paul Mainieri did him a huge favor in life. Hope he learns something.

Glad you chimed in Adam. I know Dozar is the current backup and saw Didier listed on the lsusports.net roster. I think I remember hearing Dishon was the emergency catcher a couple of years ago. My guess is Fury is the bullpen catcher.

What's the story with Tyler Ross exactly (e.g. draft expectations, etc.)?

Dozar, Fury, and Didier have been listed as catchers. We also had a another kid catching in the fall, but I don't remember his name. Not sure if he is still in the program.

Everyone sounds so shocked that a Newman kid could dick around in school. I'd suggest you get to know a wider sampling of their graduates.

Saw plenty of friends on scholarship handle their 1st year at LSU in the same manner.
Party and blow class off. Brilliant kids. Set them back years.
Hope he can turn around because he is a very good athlete.
Paul M does not put up with any BS. Follow the rules or you are gone. Trent seems to be the same way. Not even going to comment on Les.

Big kid about 6'3 210 I think, has got alot of raw power that hasn't been utilized as of yet. From what I've heard he's a big strong physical catcher with a great arm. There is a risk of losing him to the draft, but Mainieri will be in his ear about potentially becoming a three year starter.

I dont think Newman is what it once was pre-Katrina. Due to lack of schools in the Uptown area I assume they had to lower academic requirements. I am not saying this kid is a dumb arse. Just not sure its the same school as it once was.

Southeastern has a great catcher Manieri should go after

Fortenberry? (sp) He's solid, but he's small which is why LSU didnt recruit him in the first place I believe. the kid can play though.

It doesn't matter where you went to high school when you go off to college and don't go to class. They get a good base at places like Newman but some of you act like they should be able to go to class 2 days a semester and still pass because they went to a private high school. It doesn't work that way.

I know this kid's father. Used to be an Edward Jones I.R. from the Lafayette area. Now lives in NOLA. The topic of many of our discussions, when we were runnin' buddies (Post Katrina), was his boy and what a great athlete he was.

I fear he will not be taking this well. Haven't talked to him in about 3 yrs, so I don't know.
