I don't think LSU will ever be an average program again.

It's at the level now, that even if Les left the program would attract high level coaches. I'm not trying to dis Les or any other coach but it's simple; keep the in-state kids here and hire the right staff and you will have a solid program year in year out.

LSU will remain a power if and only if the following occur:

(1) Hire great coaches;

(2) Secure commitments from the premier players in Louisiana each year (should be a function of aim number one);

(3) Continue to invest money in facilities and programs.

The time frame is historical. Florida hasn't even been good for 20 years. At times they were terrible.

Dude, I hope you are joking. They had a coach named Urban Meyer who led them to championships in 06 and 08. Have you heard of him?

Florida has 3 NC's in the last 20 years and LSU has 2. Ohio State 1. Now, in terms of prestige and "brand" I would rank LSU ahead of Florida all-time.

Fairly certain you misinterpreted the post you were responding to. He meant that Florida has only been a powerhouse program for twenty years or so. Prior to that, they were mediocre and often horrible.

Miles already turned down Michigan. LSU has the money to keep him unless he goes to the NFL. He'll be around a long time unless he gets fired. If he wants he can create a legacy at LSU

I can see him having had enough in next 2-4 years.

With the amount of monetary resources available to the athletic department, and the ridiculous amount of great high school talent available in this and in neighboring states, LSU should stay at this high level pretty consistently for as long as they stay out of trouble imo.

Do you think the program as a whole that saban and miles have built has long term staying power like the classic Bama's, notre dames, OUs, Michigans, etc...

of course. the above programs have down periods just like LSU has. LSU should be mentioned in the same sentence as any of those programs. will we always be top 5? no, and neither is any other program. if you look at bama, other than the bear bryant (and now saban) they haven't been as good as LSU. the HC is everything in a big program.

I got to ask this.You mentioned Frank Wilson.i 'm wondering did he grew up partly in Marrerro. I new some Wilsons, they were originally from Algiers on the westbank. A fine family. His father and uncles were very atheletic, they carried LB Landry High School Sports. They were a large family with many 3 letter atheletes and were great community leaders. Uncles, 3 of them were CB's for Grambling,when it was kinda in its glory days. Frank senior was a friend of mine-a little guy with a 40" vertical leap.
