Renewing the press' search for symbols, names, memories, indeed - any hint or STRETCH for anything at all which might be perceived, as he says "offensive", Advocate opinion page columnist Mark Ballard in Sunday's Advocate suggests that LSU's nickname "Tigers" may offend some as it has been SUGGESTED (read "dreamed" up") as having Confederate (therefore, of course, "racist") underpinnings. The thing offensive about this latest snowflake foolishness is that such as Mr. Ballard could draw a paycheck for writing and indeed advocating such drivel.

I understand and respect your point, dcw7g, but I have different views on simply ignoring propaganda from leftist rags such as the BR newspaper. For far too long, for example, the head-in-the-sand conservatives in D.C. swept the Deep State under the rug, ignored, and dissembled, as the Marxists took over all the levers of power - from the universities, to the press, to the Demo party. Result - today's Seattle, Portland, NY, San Francisco, the D.C. Swamp. I suggest we call public attention to the outrages whenever and wherever they appear. An informed, alert, active (not passive) citizenry MIGHT at least have a chance before it is too late.

I sort of agree. That's why I didn't bother reading his BS, because there is no justification for it.
I did visit his twitter though to see if he has any influence whatsoever, but he doesn't seem to.

Maybe he should research the Advocates editorial pages from before 1970 and see if any staff opinions were racists?

First of all, it is named after the famous "Fighting Tigers" of Robert E. Lee's army, who fought so bravely at Gettysburg. Secondly, we should have absolutely no reason to be ashamed or fearful of this name. It is our heritage. Rise up and stop denying your heritage!
