Why are we so quick to get rid of him? Would love the Freeman hire and just posted on the CCB about Doug Belk as a replacement, but honestly, for continuity he'd be a top keep. After the bowl game, LSU could realistically get inside the top 50 in scoring defenses which I think is unbelievable when I remember last year and early this year.

For a little more, we were 124 out of 127 in total defense last year. We are 61st as of right now. That's nothing short of amazing.

And had O let Coach Jones use more 3 man fronts, with blitz packages from the start, rather than stay in a 4 man front with no pressure from LB or DB's, those numbers could have been even better in my view.

Amazing? Go look at what our defense used to do every single year under Les Miles. 61st is not amazing, it is sad that we are even happy about it. We need to be Top 10 in defense or you can forget about winning anything, ever!

In fairness it was a massive improvement over 2020, and it's harder to be good statistically when the offense lays an egg.

Plus, more than half the defensive starters weren't playing, yet the D improved.

Kind of incredible. Defensive coach of the year if we only counting games after BYE lmao.

57th is HORRIBLE. Just because he is less shitty than Pelini doesn’t mean he should get the job.

Our defense was not, close to top ten in 2019. Offenses rule. Get an offensive line. And an adequate defense and LSU blows out most opponents

I can't believe you're this ignorant. We lost all but 3-4 starters, from the beginning of the year and went from a defense that was literally 3 spots from the worst in the country, to the top half of the country in one year's time. THAT is crazy turnaround.

I want you to go look at teams with terrible defense and what their defensive numbers look like literally year one later with a brand new DC, one getting his first shot at coordinating on top of that. Please go bring me that research.

You don't go worst to first immediately, that's stupid.

124th was because we had the worst dc hire in the history of LSU. Jones improved a shite ton, but his resume now only has one year calling plays and he finished 50th with a top 10 talented team. A more safe bet is to take someone proven.

Orgeron forced him? That doesn’t make any sense.

I mean If you consider that O has said that’s the defense he wants and that O was his boss it makes perfect sense.

A top 10 talented team…? WHAT. You are saying with all those injuries we still had a top 10 talented team? Bro just how good do you think our roster is? Even Bama and Georgia would not have a top 10 talented defense if they lost that many players to injury. Or are you just disregarding that fact to be disingenuous as hell

I salute Daronte for putting together an effective D at the end of the season. It was a major catalyst in salvaging the season. We should’ve beat both Arkansas and bama on the strength of his defense. Unfortunately we’ll never know what could’ve been if O hadn’t been meddling. Imagine if we had been able to open up the run game against UCLA and Auburn.

It’s truly hilarious how stupid and irrational many of you are. Our 2019 defense was 32nd in scoring…with a healthy team…a number of people that are currently starting on NFL rosters with Dave Aranda as the DC

Daronte taking us to 57th with ALL those injuries and being handcuffed by O is AMAZING. Especially after the product from last year and the fractioned locker room. There a a handful of DCs in the country that could do that. Dude had Darren evans as a starting CB and Pig Cage getting reps for crying out loud. Y’all love throwing out elko, but daronte did better against Ole Miss (while still being handcuffed), arky and Bama with less talent at his disposal. Y’all wanted Arnett… guess who has the exact same scoring defense as Arnett rn? Daronte jones, and Arnett had FULL AUTONOMY of his defense from the start, and LSU had a tougher schedule than A&M and Moo state. Or maybe Barry Odom and his 46th ranked scoring defense right? Another full autonomy guy.

And the more talent argument on defense this year is faulty because everyone was hurt. Do y’all research and stop sounding stupid please

is there proof O handcuffed him or is that the excuse bc it took four losses before he started blitzing?

57 isn’t an acceptable number for the LSU d.

Jones is ok, looks great because Peetz is complete shite. Why would we want him over a Freeman or Elko?

Again I will ask all the morons, please, you guys have been alive long enough. I realized common sense isn't common a couple years ago, but I'm asking for common sense here.

First year defensive coordinator took over a defense that was almost dead last in total defense and was almost 100th in scoring defense, to top half of the country.

A little over halfway through the season, we had lost all but 3 starters and even lost backups having to play multiple 3rd stringers.

Mike Elko took a defense that was 87th in scoring defense the year before he got there, and took it to 47th. He did not have a mass of injuries nor was his head coach hampering his abilities to coach, yet he did EXACTLY the same as Jones by putting his team 40 spots ahead. The next year they went 36th, BUT THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR LSU RIGHT???? Two years and he didn't take a terrible defense to top 10 or #1, why would we want this guy?????

Total defense was 78th before he got there and he took it to 32nd, 46 spot jump. Didn't beat out Jones though, who BTW is a first year coordinator, missing over 70% of his original starters and even several backups, who took pretty much the worst defense in the country, and jumped up 63 spots. The next year Elko's defense went up to 29th. From 32nd to 29th, BUT WERE LSU! WHY WOULD WE WANT A GUY WHOSE DEFENSE ONLY IN THE TOP 30? Why wasn't Elko's defense in the top 10? Why would we want that jerk who had 2 years, no distractions, and all his players, and still only got to 29th?

The stupidity of a lot of you astounds me on stuff like this. Your perspectives are warped.

If O had hired Jones instead of making the lazy Pelini hire, he might still have a job here.
