Is It a good thing that LSU is stacked with players that look great at the combine and not so much anywhere else? Hunter as a rush end had 1.5 sacks, that's the stat that counts. Does anyone ever recall how many tackles for loss Gastineau, Smith, and JJ Watt have, no. The recruiting of freakish athletes is ok, but only if a real football player is part of the package. Seems to be one more here with Hunter.
Too small for the DE in pros, never operating in space in college, not good.

Hunter is described as having great upside.
Sounds like his LSU career.

averaging more than one TFL per game is good at any level of football, sacks or not

in fact that is how defensive linemen are evaluated

Clowney 'excelled' in college, and wow'd the fans with highlight reel plays, tons of sacks and had that awesome hit on Michigan RB in the bowl game, replayed over and over and....he's lighting it up in the NFL.....

J.Clowney was injured most of the year. I bet he lights it up this year. Clowney can disrupt a game hunter well....

What you for?

If he stays healthy, he and JJ wreck Qb's this season.

It's scary to think what he would've done with a year or two of Coach O getting after his arse. Dudes a physical freak.

He ran a 4.55 40 at Pro Day if I recall correctly. To say he can't stay with RBs and TEs on pass routes as an OLB is incorrect from a pure speed and quickness perspective. Now, assignment instincts and reaction time may be another question, but that is where he can be coached up. I really think he has the chance to make some noise in the NFL.

I love how a guy is a top 5 DL in the SEC and yet our fans say he did nothing... What do our guys gave to do to impress our fans.

In what world was he a top 5 D-lineman in the SEC?

Rascoe was better in every facet of the game. That's not dumping on Danielle, and I hope the best for him, but the fanbase just blindly saying he's going to be awesome isn't right either.

Hunter blew the scouts on hand out of the water with his workout.

What a terribly worded sentence.

More sacks, more turnovers, more big plays. We were spoiled in 2011, but it became the standard and now everyone, not just fans, expects a nasty, fast LSU defense that is a QB's worst nightmare and can change the game in a split second. DH was a good, sound player and has a lot of potential, but we want our DE's "scary." He didn't scare anyone.

What he was asked to do at LSU and what he'll be asked to do in the NFL will be totally different. He will be asked to run the passer in the NFL vs containing spread QBs in college.

"Thanks Chavis" from Hunter: This is what Hunter had to say: "It was an honor being coached by such a magnificent coordinator. He put every player on the field in the best position to be successful."

Many felt he could have been convinced to stay if Chavis had not left over his long contract dispute with Alleva.

DE Danielle Hunter's 25-yard fumble return for a touchdown was the first defensive touchdown for LSU since S Craig Loston returned an interception 100 yards for a score vs. Mississippi State in 2012.

LSU had at least 15 defensive touchdowns under DC John Chavis. The last time LSU returned a fumble for a touchdown was Tyrann Mathieu with a 23-yard score versus Kentucky on Oct. 1, 2011. One that was left off the list was TM7's forced fumble return against ORE in the 2011 season opener.

Hunter was a good player for us, but I don't see how he has a future in the NFL. While he has great burst, he doesn't anticipate the snap very well at all. Biggest reason he couldn't sack the qb was that the ball was snapped and the OT already in his dropstep by the time Hunter started moving. NFL OT's will be even quicker and will provide a wall that he is unable to get around if he doesn't improve on this. He is very long though, so he should be able to continue knocking down passes at the LOS. He seems to work very hard, so hopefully he is able to stick wherever he lands.

DE's vs DTQBs in the shotgun also have the added responsibility of reading the QB, and cannot just drop back in coverage or blitz.
