Does Mary bird Perkins usually treat animals or is this an exception?

Did Mike receive any treatment today or was this a test run to make sure everything works as advertised? It appears based on what I've read it was the latter.

surely mike deserves to be escorted in a better truck than that piece of shite that's hauling him

Seriously? All they are doing is taking him to the damn hospital. They should buy a $70,000 truck and have a custom wrap just for this!

During the simulation process, the Cancer Center team created the devices that will be used to help position Mike and acquired multiple CT images that will be used to map the tumor in Mike’s face during treatment planning. These images will also later be used to very precisely target the tumor using stereotactic radiotherapy

For years, the Cancer Center’s medical physicists have provided consultation and approval for animals receiving radiation treatment at LSU. Additionally, the Cancer Center offers the advanced technology and facilities necessary for Mike’s SRT treatments, which will occur outside of normal business hours.

This may be for his actual treatment and "exam" being used to keep it from becoming a media circus.

I can't imagine them stressing Mike by hauling him across town for an exam, bringing him back to his habitat, then back across town for his actual treatment.

It was my understanding that they will be using a SRT to treat him. If that is the case, then for him, the treatment and the exam will be the exact same: sedate, transport, put in room, put in position, exam/treatment, get home.

The procedure calls for extremely precise focus of the treatment apparatus. To get it extremely precise they have to preform a CT scan first (this would be the "exam") and then align the patient in the exact same position for the treatment. In humans, it is quite common for them to actually make a rigid mask to hold you into position. I don't know what they are going to do for him - he has a big head.

Get better mike.

Sounds like he will be under general anesthesia multiple times which concerns me after the kidney comments earlier. Hang in there Mike!

Not usually these days but in days past they would treat animals fairly regularly. The LSU got a radiation treatment machine and most animal treatments are done there now. Mike's tumor requires SRT which is a specialized treatment and cannot be done on the vet school's machine.

Today would be be a planning appointment. There will be a treatment appointment soon. Likely will happen and then we will know about it like today.
