That would be perfect. Wish John Tenta could of been part of that.

What about people that wrestled for the student club team circa 2005-2009?

Sadly Title IX killed wrestling at LSU and dozens of other universities across the Country. During the late 70’s until1985, LSU dominated SEC wrestling thanks to coach Sciacchetano.

Tenta played rugby at LSU (see pic). I think Jeff Boss said he also had the biggest helmet size in the history of LSU football when he played. I guess he was trying to find a niche after title IX screwed LSU wrestling.

The season after LSU dropped wrestling, if you would of added up all the points the relocated wrestlers scored at the NCAA at their perspective schools, LSU would of won the Title. Kevin Jackson went on to win an Olympic Gold, freshman John Ginther later took an NCAA gold for ASU. When LSU puts a program together, they do it right. Just sad they had to cut the program.

I started at LSU in 1978 and lived in Broussard Hall. Became good friends with many of the wrestlers.
Here’s the story. 190 lb weight class had a wrestle-off to determine who start. It was Jerry Rodriguez, Joe Atiyeh and a guy I believe his last name was Martucci but don’t hold me to that. Jerry won the round robin and every match was incredible. Later Joe Atiyeh would end up winning a silver medal in the Olympics and Martucci transferred to , I believe, Trenton State where he ended up winning an NCAA championship. Pretty good trio at one school in one weight class.

I think his name was Tom Martucci and I never heard that story. Wow, what a packed room. Yes, I forgot about Joe winning a Silver in the Olympics (getting old). I heard Joe is living in BR still. I like to find Jerry and let him know we are getting together. Thanks for passing that on.

Yes Sir, a fellow LSU Wrestler named Rocco Liace ran into the Earthquake out in Phoenix when he was in the pro circuit. Interesting conversation about pro wrestling. John was a gentle man in real life.

Bob Piatt who I believe is still in BR may be able to help. I know Billy Williams would know where he is.

I don't think they have IX cents in their pocket.

I watched many LSU dual meets in the early 80's and had dreams of wrestling for Coach Larry. Was a State Champion in 1986 at 185 lbs. Had scholarship offers to wrestle at schools in the Mid-West and East coast but decided to attend LSU and party like a Rock Star.

I'd occasionally run into Coach at wrestling meets or when I was in BR on business. The tragic murder of Dave Schultz affected him and others with USA wrestling pretty hard.
