LSU was never going to be a baseball power...and then they hired Skip Bertman.

In basketball there are 20 perennial tournament teams from areas with a dearth of talent, like Rhode Island.

Bottom line is our football and baseball teams takes precedence over basketball currently. You get the right coach in here and we could be competitive and respectable. In state talent doesn’t mean as much in basketball because we are only talking like 8-9 guys. Nil and the portal is where it is at. If BAMA can do it so can we.

that's a bonus but we'll tolerate long stretches of less than championship level baseball a lot longer than we'll out up with that for football, baseball is still pretty much a diversion while waiting on football season

A large number of NBA players born in Louisiana left the state when they were young and never went to HS here.

De'Aaron Fox, Kelly Oubre, Thad Young, Aaron Holiday are just some that were born here, but played HS out of state.

Uhh yea it does

The map is NBA players per capita. Are you really gonna haggle over a star rating when Louisiana is putting guys in the league at a higher rate than almost anyone else?

Basketball isn’t like football…and I think that is part of the reason we have so many unintelligent posts about basketball on here. Many LSU fans view it through the prism of football

But what did Brian Kelly do when he arrived? He put the word out that every Louisiana kid that was passed over by the previous staff but wanted a chance to play for LSU should contact him. We filled our depleted football roster with the “cast offs” and they came back and gave us a very good season.

Matt McMahon needs to try a similar path. There are some solid players around the country who played high school ball in Louisiana. Those guys are certainly better than what we saw on the floor in purple and gold this season.

Based on where they were born. Can Louisiana really take credit for a NBA player when they moved out of the state when they were 13-14 years old?

You do not know the criteria used in making that map. Unless you can list which players were used in the evaluation, and then prove how many of them were born here but went to HS out-of-state, and then show that it makes a statistically significant difference in the evaluation, then you are just making up data and proffering it as fact

This, it's entirely irrelevant where the player is born. If a kid grew up elsewhere how can he really be considered an "in-state" recruit as it relates to LSU?

LINK

This has 8 current players "BORN" in the state of LA in the NBA as of 2023 (sort it by "TO" column).

Fox played basketball in Texas
Holiday played basketball in California
Oubre also played basketball in Texas
Young played basketball in Tennessee

That's half the LA "natives" who didnt even play basketball here in high school.

Also again this is all kind of a moot point because players dont grow up in basketball generally loving their in-state school and wanting to go there. It's completely different than something like football. Just cant make the same connection really. With all these travel teams and such they get way more exposure than football kids do regionally and nationally. They build recruiting relationships through AAU teams and schools/agents connected with them, been that way a while now.

The point of the thread was saying we don’t have good in-state talent, which is true. Saying we have the highest per capita, especially claiming people born in Louisiana who likely no longer live here, means nothing.

The list of NBA players from Louisiana is underwhelming, especially recent

Now this is more like it! Thank you for coming at us with some actual data

Numbers still aren’t equating for me, so I’d encourage the original map poster (RidiculousHype) to cite a source. Where did that map come from?
