Remind me how many they have? This isn't to be confused with me saying they aren't a great team but they don't have one top 10 win. They are playing great football to be sure but their best win is over, at the time, 13th ranked or so Wisconsin and Cincinnati.

Doesn't matter. The committee will say the have a stronger SOS and #1 offense/defense

Same reason you want #1 seed in March madness. You want the easiest path. Having to play both of OSU Clemson will be tougher than just one. The 4th team in will be perceived as very flawed, whoever they are.

Take a long walk off a short pier with your idiotic "analysis".

I'm thinking that whether you have to beat OSU/Clemson in the first round or the second doesn't really matter unless you're placing an inherent value on making it to the championship game over losing in the first round (as opposed to the "win it all or bust" mentality)

Not correct.

If we assume there is a 50% chance of LSU beating Clemson or OSU (and we could argue whether that percentage is higher or lower, I'm just giving an example), but that LSU has a 70% chance of beating Oregon...

70% * 50% = 35% chance of national title if we have the 1 seed and skip OSU/Clemson in the semifinal
50% * 50% = 25% chance of national title if we have the 2 seed and play Clemson in the first round.

Its a clearly easier path. And while yes, I'm not scared of playing Clemson in the first round, why would we not rather have the easier path? And importantly, why would we wish the easier path for anyone other than us?

If they cannot beat UGA what's the point?

Exactly. If we have one bad game, we would be out vs those two. We could have a down game and beat Oregon. I want in the title game as easy as possible

It absolutely does matter. If it didn't matter, wouldn't they be #1 right now?

Because their best wins are against Wisconsin and Cincinnati? Ok

And they're going to have wins (in your little scenario) against teams ranked below 10th. While we have 4 wins over top 10 teams. You tell me who has the better SOS.

With OSU having 3 ranked teams in a row

So that will give them a total of 5, of which only 1, maybe 2 will be top 10 at game time, and 1 of which was Michigan State who has a losing record. LSU will also have played 5 (or maybe even 6 if A&M beats Georgia), 5 of which were top 10 at game time.

Even if you're correct in predicting OSU wins their next 3 games, which I honestly don't think they do, Penn State will finish lower than Florida, Michigan will finish lower than Auburn, Wisconsin x2 or Minn will finish lower than Georgia, Michigan State will finish lower than Texas, and they will all finish lower than Alabama.

I don't want to hear crap about OSU jumping to #1 because they beat Penn State this weekend, which is no given by the way.

You would rather play Clem over Oregon or Bama

Yes.

First, we already played and whipped Bama AT THEIR PLACE.

Second, Clemson's fan base is the most annoying on the planet, outside of Bama. I am sick to death of their crap. I want to win for the sheer pleasure of shutting them the hell up.

You haven't been paying attention have ya? LSU had wins over Aub, UF and Texas and the committee said OSU had a better SOS

I mean does that really matter? If it's OSU/Clemson you'd like to avoid, you'd assumedly have to play one of them the very next week anyway.

Playing only one of them after they've beat each other up is better than playing both of them (particularly playing the first one after weeks of rest and then the second one after they've played a relatively weak first-round playoff opponent).

Shocking but true.... because of NWST

reasoning is willingly being ignored if you try to convince me they have a tougher schedule.

I'm pretty sure I have been because I was at every one of those games with the exception of the Texas one.

We beat a #9 ranked Texas
A #7 Florida
A #9 Auburn
A #3 Alabama

Show me where tOSU has something similar to that.

This all assumes that we're totally confident that OSU/Clemson are head and shoulders above whoever's in that 4 spot. Guess we'll know more about OSU over the next couple weeks but Clemson is still a total black box. Honestly there's more proven cause for concern with Oregon that Clemson and OSU at this moment.

Uh huh. How many ranked wins will that give them over the season compared to us?
